Well the little bast4ard is now with Dai. Top bloke. Got the feeling that it's coming back perfect.

Dai has worked his magic and found the problem with the brake pedal. A 17mm fine thread nut was lodged in the works. No idea how TF it got there. Also found that the brake pedal switch was for a 6v. No idea how it was working as the system has been 12v since I bought it 7 years ago. I think what we have here is the scooter equivalent of that possessed car Christine. Finally he said the engine had a 7 degree advance. It's a Parmakit with that Mazz crank and it was running in the jig plus I set it up as per the instructions. Anyway I told him to check it twice, and then again.

Well it's ready for collection! Couple more mysteries. The steering race and locker were on the wrong way. No idea how. Thought the upper race didn't have an up or down side and I thought locking ring could only be locked using the tool if it was the right way up? Also put them back as I found them- Newport scooters strike again! I'll ask about that when I see Dai. Timing now all sorted as that was giving him all sorts of shit. I'll find out how he fixed it next week on collection. Lights look brilliant and the soft close stand is working properly now.

Checked my photos and it appears I put the locking ring and the top ring the wrong way around. Dickhead. Picked it up this morning from Dai. Runs lovely but he said occasionally stalls at idle. probably just needs an Italian tune up. The malossi ignition unit was causing all the problems with the timing for some reason. Vespatronic replacement solved it all. Just as we're wheeling it to my van he says "oh yes, you've got an oil leak" FFS! Jinxed or what? It was coming from the lowest bolt on the casing. Weird since it was leak tested when I built it. Dai nipped up the bolt and we put it in the van. An hours journey and lots of shaking around and there was no oil drops on the floor so either his spanner sorted it or it's empty of oil. The led front light is superb and the soft close stand is ok but is a bit slow to retract the last 10cms.
Well that's it, Christine the possessed scoot is "finished" (they're never finished are they). I'll post up some photos when I get a fine Sunday to take some. Thanks to everyone for their help, advice and encouragement.
