So it was gardening day on Sunday as the grass was tall enough to hide lions and tigers. After completing that shit task I thought I'd have a tinker with the engine build. Well feck me if the garage elves hadn't been up to their crap. Seems like although I put all the parts labelled and in bags those little shits have been into the gearchange one and removed the bottom wavy washer for the linkage. Could I find one in my parts bin? No chance so I had to order one. One bloody washer ffs!
I can guarantee that when it finally arrives and I go to fit it, the original will be sat on the bench in plain view. Shitty little elves!

So I fitted the crank bearings and then set about doing the gears. i'd ordered a 51mm DRT hardened gear selector only it appears on stripdown that I needed a 50.2. Luckily I had one hanging about that was unused so I fitted that. If anyone needs a 51 let me know and you can have it for £60 UK P&P included. (cost £64 plus vat plus postage) www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/gear-selector-drt-4-gear_4043175A

So SIP are finally sending the cone I need for the primary cog and VE are sending the wavy washer for the gear selector so the build should re-start soon.
Couple of questions:
The Polini head torque settings: 12-14 or 15-16 ft pounds? Do I need to check the squish and if so what should I be aiming for? Carb- H, you included some jets- any idea of a starting point? I'm not using a filter btw.
My throttle cable has a pip on the carb end. It's a shitter to connect and disconnect when working on the carb, trying to keep the spring in place and put the screws back on. Is there a mechanical solution out there to make it as easy as a normal carb and cable- like the standard 19/19 for instance?
Thanks
H- I'll need built up SIP wheels and tyres soon- do you want the order or shall I ask Dai?

I've never changed jets before. I have no problem doing it but I just want to check their location. As far as I can work out from online stuff I just need to remove the float bowl to see the pilot and main jets. Can anyone confirm this please?
TIA

14mm spanner an unscrew float bowl retaining nut ,the main jet,6mm thread, is screwed into that .remove float bowl an the smaller 5mm thread pilot jet is there nxt to centre boss for atomiser .theres often a anti-surge brass washer pushed over atomiser boss that needs to be pulled off to get to pilot jet .H

Little bit of progress on Sunday. Washer finally arrived so in went the gear selector. I had to pop a slim washer on the big bolt as well as the usual one otherwise the change wouldn't move when I tightened the bolt.
Batwing fitted
Clutch basket and circlip fitted
Kickstart o ring changed
Kickstart quadrant spring and rubbers fitted
Kickstart lever fitted, gears fitted. Kickstart cog, spring and washer fitted.
Gasket fitted with grease.
Just waiting on a set of oil seals for the crank and rear hub so that I can move on and get the cases together. Did a trial fit and it wasn't having any of it. I'm pretty sure the kickstart quadrant end is not perfectly lining up with the hole in the flyside case as there's a little movement in the assembly. Time will tell. Tap, wiggle, turn, wiggle, tap. Wheels and tyres are on their way too. BTW if you lot spot anything I've done wrong let me know. I've done a few builds but I've had a some massive brainfades in the past. EG I nearly put the cases together without the inner crank seal- nice! Ok onwards! Thanks for reading.

So you know how sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get the cases back together and bolted and torqued? Well it wasn't one of those days yesterday. Little shitter wasn't having any of it. Tap tap wiggle wiggle... for 2 hours. Kickstart seemed the main problem. FINALLY it went together and I fitted all the bolts hand tight ready for torquing. Crank is moving and it's tight but not rubbing. Kickstart finally decided to start returning after a few more taps and wiggling. I was so fed up by then I didn't take a photo so I only have these two for your viewing.
More next week when there should be some progress due to the bank holiday. Thanks for reading!

Well that's fecked it. Seems when i was stripping it down and going to replace the crank i was a bit careless and damaged the end of the drive side thread. Now the nut wont catch the thread. My die kit doesn't go as big as i need so heres my question. What size die will i need for the drive size of the Mazz crank? Failing that its strip down and fit a new crank.
Yes im an idiot.

rather than a die , a careful dressing on end with a triangular needle file should get it ok to take a nut .its m12x1.5 by the way .H
