nice way of holding the clutch Made it myself out of a bolt and some washers then just clamped the bolt in the vice.

the fork leg bearings look like they need to go in a tad more ,they dont sit flush with the outside.but about 2mm in ,so the v lip seals can fit in an be flush .H Thanks H. I put them in using the vice so they ended up flush. I'll use my bearing press to push them in that bit more.

Here's the video I promised.
It moves ok but then gets to point then stops. The link is not rubbing on anything or coming into contact with the casings. Does it seem that it's moving far enough in each direction? Thanks.

Sorted! Took it apart and found that the casting part had a slight bulge where it fitted to the rear of the link. 2 minutes with a file and i now have full movement of the gear arm. Thank shite i sorted it before i put the cases together.

Not much accomplished I'm afraid Bearings seated better Door bumpers fitted Kicksatrt rubber fitted Choke lever fitted. And its sonofabitch Sunday! Take off the mudguard, get it sprayed, go to put it back on and little shitter wont line up with the side hole. I can get them to line up using both hands but then I don't have any hands left to insert the bolt. How the hell does that happen? Garage pixies at work again I bet. Same ones that hide a small part that you then re-order, and then just before it arrives, they put it back. I gave up. I'll figure some way of ratchet strapping it down so I can insert the bolt, this week.

That's a bugger. But nothing ever fits and the more it costs the worse the fit.
Just stay calm, have a nice cupper and then it will fit.
I have to stop every now and again as I get garage rage.🥸

Mud guards only fit when you bend them out of shape

Mud guards only fit when you bend them out of shape I know this from past builds, they are little shits, but the annoying thing here is that it fitted perfectly when I took it off. It only got sprayed, no filling or anything. I'm probably going to go with a slightly thinner bolt and balls to it. Next problem I've got is removing the steering column bottom bearing shell. It's in there fecking good and tight. I've popped them before no problem: threaded bar, 2 nuts on one end with a penny washer in between, slide down inside the steering column, snick the edge of the washer in the gap between the column and the shell and smack the top end of the bar. Tried that and the shitter bent the washer! Time for some heat I think! Any other ideas?

Should not need any heat I guess you missed the bearing cup try some 1 inch tube and gently tap around the edge of the bearing cup in many places.
If it kicks over on one side it will get difficult to shift

If it kicks over on one side it will get difficult to shift It's got the previous and current paint layers over it, and maybe the previous, previous paint so that can't be helping. I'll give it a clean and have a go Sunday.

So it didn't need heat just a bit of wd40 over a few days then a thicker washer on the bar: 3 bangs and out it came! Mudguard bolts finally fitted. Ye I know it's not the correct one but it fits and it's black. Top bearing cup fitted with my special bearing cup tool. You know you have a problem when you buy a tool that only does one job that needs doing every 10 years. That was it for this week as 3 tonnes of logs arrived and had to be stacked. Stay tuned for another thrilling instalment next week when I fit the hub and shock onto the steering column and then the column into the frame.

Any joy with the mudguard.
I made my own fiberglass one for shortened 2XL forkleg and damper.
Even that needed pushing and shoving

Any joy with the mudguard. Yes. It's in the 3rd picture. I used a slightly thinner bolt.

Great work fella, looking good, yep don't envy you with the headset work- been a while since I've done one but indeed- bit of a bugger to work on. My currently smallie is a PKXL so a lot more builder friendly in that respect. Paul

Well fvckitybuggershitonit!
What a waste of 2 hours. Assembled the throttle and clutch tubes, mounted the headset, got the clutch cable connected- shitter of a job, then the front brake, then the loom to the switch then the gears into the cable pulley, then the throttle... but it won't go. It appears that when I pulled the wires through for the SIP speedo I pulled them IN FRONT of the throttle which means it has to make too tight a curve to get into the pulley.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At that point I threw my tools around the garage because it was an absolute bugger of a job to get them in and now I have to go back about 10 steps and pull them through BEHIND the throttle.
Then I had a long think and I decided to just fit a normal speedo. The SIP one is white anyway so it wouldn't have fitted in with the scheme anyway. So if you want an unused SIP 2.0 white speedo, I have one for any reasonable offer. I think they're £160 plus post so something above £100 plus post I think is fair.
Next week I repeat what I did this week so I'll post up some photos then when it's done properly.

really enjoying this thread as I have just bought a 1976 primavera in bits and now know that half the holes drilled in it need welding up.

Yay! Some success. Stripped the headset back down and found that, like an idiot, I'd routed the main loom to the front and the throttle to the back. No way to squeeze one past the other so I had to remove the horn, thread an old cable down to there then pull the throttle cable down, tape them together and pull them back up. Just an update, I found a cover for the axle. Ok, now to start the headset rebuild again. Back to the start Clutch cable in Front brake cable and switch loom in Cables into plastic holder and then screwed down And then I stopped. Sometimes you have to quit while you're ahead and nothing has gone to shit. Next week, pulley wheels on and connect gear and throttle cables, fit the speedo, levers and grips.
