The ones I have do have a clear strip underneath them.
So they will illuminate the number plate which will be fastened underneath them, and will be the correct colour for the bike's age, of the correct dimensions, and with the correctly sized and spaced lettering.

I'm serious actually - nothing annoys me more than people with PX's or even worse GT's with black and silver plates.

you mean to say the number plate will be "large" and not a smallish custom one ::)how do those lights look from the side? does the fact that they point up a bit (with being on a slope) look out of place at all? they look pretty smart from the back.

Number plate will be as it comes from the shop...can't be arsed dicking about!
Lights, hmmmm, therin lies a problem. apparently they need to be square to the road, so that the reflectors will work. Was actually gonna seek fabrication advice on here...

Okay I ovalled the holes I'd made out so I could adjust the angle of the lights, and they are now as near as damnit square to the road. Problem is: I don't mind that they are sitting out like that, I just want to cover up the screws, back fitting. the way I see it I have 3 options: Fabricate a tube to sit against the frame and around the black part of the fitting. Mount the lights from inside the frame on a bracket) and have the lenses poking through the frame Buy some of tunnels from SIP - I think they are the same size (56mm is mentioned on SIP and my lights are 54.5mm) I think the easiest option is the tunnels - what do you all think?

Cool! For me mate I'd leave the lights as was. Bolted straight back a mate had them on a T5 Cut (Del Malossi with the Limes on remember it?) and they looked and worked fine. Del Malossi - 'Sublime' pretty trick.

Breezer - how did you oval the holes - with a holesaw on the perpendicular or by grinding out? Im making some frenched in lights as well, but bit wary about using a holesaw on the frame, but also cant work out how to draw the oval shape in a slope that it would make. Using 28mm pipe for the tunnels with 7/8" acrylic rod (fluorescent) as the lense with leds behind. Hopefully will look nice but at the moment seems like something I wish I hadnt started!

swallow, try playing around with this bit of software, the trial is free... its handy for making pipes, but if set it to calculate a paralel section you could use it for the frenched housing, print on card to make a template, or get software to make a cad file and email it to a fabricator, laser cutting is dead cheap for thin sheet so a pair of housings would probably cost a few quid.... once you made the housings you can present then to frame and mark out you ovals.. or make card housings and use them to mark the ovals..... i dunno just guessing as i've never done this... the softwares handy though [ftp]http://www.pulserate.com/[/ftp]

hmmmm, I tried to cut round holes with a holesaw but it just blunted the saw!!!!
However it did give me a good guide, so I drilled, dremelled and filed with a semi-circular file to get the holes.
then I made templates out of card for the ovals, marked this and filed it out with the semi-circular file.
I started witha 25mm hole so 28mm should be easy enough with the file.

tunnel lights are great, but the fittings are expensive! did i read the sip site right? the tunnel tubes if you buy them on their own are more expensive than with the lights as a combined unit? i'd go with just screwing the lights back as you had them Jim and see how they work out.

there are 2 types of tunnel / lights.
One comes with a fuse type light (2 blubs in each) and the other is a single bult type bulb (presumably 2 filaments)
the fuse type is available with (£56) or without (£46) the lights.
the second type are available in red or clear lenses, and are £37
the fuse type lamps state 64mm and the bulb type tunnel kits 56mm so I am thinking that the 2 kits are different in size.
Well, I hope they are because I have just ordered some. Well, I think I have but my visa card went a bit weird online, so I may not have...
Would probably have cost me that to get anyone to fabricate me anything to fit the others properly... AND they look ace!

heh heh heh - it's just covering up a hole in the frame for the old light wires... Looks good though eh? matches the red oxide! Hoping it'll match the satin black as well!
