Good evening all.......its been a while since I have updated this thread. The scoot hasn't done many miles as im waiting for my licence to come back from the DVLA (medical issue) soon. I have done some commissioning work over the past few months such as adjustments to the 2 cable gear conversion, changed the oil at least 3 times to look at contamination while running in, splitting the cylinder to look at damage, sealing the carb housing from the engine bubble etc all of which I will be adding to this thread in the near future. I'm also planning on getting a 3.50 x 10 on the back and getting my side panel painted to match the colour of the rest of the scoot. I also have a little concern that the idle isn't set up correctly as I think the EGT temp is too high but I need to get some miles under my belt first. Catch up soon........................

You'll probably have some clearance issues using a 3.50 x 10, most 90/90 x 10s will avoid this being fractionally smaller and narrower.

Can those clearance issues be overcome?

It'll mean releiving a few points from the case and maybe tweaking your exhaust but yeah, it can be done. Personally I'd go with a smaller tyre.

Hi Juan - im interested in seeing what will be needed to make the 3.50 to fit. I have had to space out my clutch cover and hub by 5mm so that may make a little difference and I have also noticed that the web area near the swing arm looks slightly slimmer than another set of cases I have but time will tell and I will get some photo's on here to keep you updated.

While running in i carried out the normal plugs checks and kept a close eye on the EGT temps, the scoot had been running really well and pulling hard but noticed that after a bit of a thrash it would hango on to the revs for a bit so i looked for the obvious air leaks and ended up take the inlet manifold off as it was weaping fuel. while it was off i noticed that the ram air filter on the carb was holding on to a lot of fuel so i decded to get rid of it and replace it with some fine mesh (thanks to Steve for his idea). As you can see the filter and carb was a bit of a tight squeeze..........

Because i have now decided to run without a filter and although the mesh in fine i was even more concious around sealing the hole where the inlet comes throught the frame. Because i had enlarged the hole the old bellow wont fit and yet again Steve came to the rescue with his CV gator idea.......

After removing the airfilter and resealing the manifold the tickover difference was noticable......revs would freely drop and tick over would be consistent, another job ticked!!
Next job.....clutch is starting to slip when the pwerband starts to kick in 3rd and 4th gear, its getting worse. I have a BGM superstrong clutch which should be more than capable of holding together and from what i can tell it did to begin with so im currently investigating this........more to follow.

Evening all...........have got 10 minutes to stick up a few more pics and to ask for more advise. As already mentioned I had started to suffer from clutch slippage, only under heavy load and this was getting progressively worse. After taking the cover off and removing the clutch this is what I have found.......

if you are paying attention you will be able to see the damage to the tabs on the cork plates.....
What are peoples thoughts on this? I was fully expecting the BGM to hold up.......should I now start to look for an alternate clutch or can I do anything different with this one? before seeing this I ordered a set of stronger spring to try and remedy the slipping so they have turned up, im thinking of just ordering a set of new plates and trying again.....maybe its down to running the engine in? this set of plates lasted around 200 miles before slipping.
The wood ruff key on the drive side has almost sheared through as well, this is causing play in the primary drive, do you think this would cause the above damage?
Let me know your thoughts......

the woodruff key is only there to help in assembling the clutch onto the shaft once the clutch nut is tightened the woodruff key serves no function whatsoever.
possably a bit of dirt on the shaft at assembly time.
i think that new plates and a less racing aproach to riding may help

I wasn't very clear on the last post regarding the woodruff, im talking about the one in the crank shaft which locates the small drive cog. This one must take a pounding?

What condition are the turrets on the basket in? I only ask as the tabs on the plates shouldn't be getting chewed up like that if things are snug. I've seen people using really rutted shite that should've been scrapped ages before.
