So I've flattened out the exhaust gasket face and re pressure tested it (used some sealant and my own gasket too this time) - exhaust was ok now but found that it was leaking at the inlet manifold (cured by tightening it up) and at the base of the cylinder where I have my packing plate. Fixed that with some instant gasket and its now pretty steady: Having done that I need to order some parts before i can progress on my idea of running the engine, so whilst I wait for payday I thought I'd look at the bracket to hold the regulator at the butty box. I see why if it was mounted horizontally it would take out the whole thing - so I think I may purchase one of these from MB Dev RegulatorThey are pretty small and I've used one on my Vega hidden under the rear mudguard (which is a pain in the ass if you want to check your wiring!). Think I will make a bracket that mounts it vertically down into the space used by the butty box so that it does not obstruct access to the carb and then still fit a glove box

So the replacements for the rear shock mount are smaller than the original - what do you think - are they incorrect and cant be used? getting closer to my test of the engine - going to try running with the old carb as dont have the one i want yet, annoyingly i missed the cdi bracket off my order!

Not sure about that bush mate, that will allow a lot more flexing of the rubber and hence make for a twitchy rear end. What carb are you looking for, I have a 26mm delly with manifold up for grabs.

The response from SIP was "Yes, this is normal. They got produced by Piaggio like this but dont worry they will work"
Not sure what to make of that

So after not being very successful with finding a mounting bracket for my cdi - I decided to make one, as it would also save me a few pennies. I'd really prefer the bolts to be welded to the bracket as I worry slightly that they will come loose but I've applied some loctite for now - maybe I'll apply some araldite to the thread to - or maybe some of that glue to the bolt heads that I was thinking of using for the glove box brackets....hopefully the clearance is ok. i will see when I place the engine back in the frame Other questions - Am I supposed to be able to place this over this? Need to strip what I think is some 80's style chrome tape..or maybe just corroded chrome plate. Bit of a bugger to peel off in places. Any easier way of removing it would be handy

the suppressor cap will stretch and bend as you slide it over the clip. these are better quality NGK rubber if you look around you can get them for about £4

Might be a better option to run the cdi earth lead from bolt holding the bracket to the casing.

IF your worried about the nuts coming undone then use nylons - always use the proper caps not the silly push on clip that come on the cheap CDI's.

Ah thanks. I was wondering why it has that - I thought it was a 'vespa' thing as I had never seen one before until a few years ago I stopped to help a very pretty young lady on a broken down small frame and was like 'wtf is that?' when I was trying to help her. I very quickly realised that I would not be much use in fixing her scooter for her. Which was a damn shame.

chrome looks like someone maybe had a half chrome half painted headset, badly done chrome can flake like that when on alloy, get it to a blasters probably best option.

Yes after having another go at it today I do think its proper chrome. I will probably get it blasted as suggested by the powder coaters when I do it - they know to treat the alloy more gently so should be ok. This evening I've been trying to get a spark from it but no success - I dont think that there is anything else to do other than connect the 3 wires from the stator to the cdi and earth it and it should spark? Already found the lack of suppressor cap annoying so that will be definitely need fitting Could not think of anything that could be the cause other than using the wrong keyway on the flywheel - which I tried to no success. Could be faulty CDi I guess, I dont have a spare to hand - so will have to remove one from one of my other scoots. Trying that also led to the most annoying news of the evening, in that I found my flywheel to still be catching on the casing to a small degree You can see where its rubbing the marker off the casing when fully tightened up. The only things I can think of would be the get the flywheel edge lathed a touch to stop this or throw myself on Beedspeeds mercy to see if they will replace something I bought over a year ago. They are definitely one of the best that Ive come across in this respect so theres hope on that

Well after a few weeks I decided to go down the contacting beedspeed about the fly wheel and they were good enough to agree to swapping my flywheel for a different type. So it did take a long time for them to source a replacement but I can't really fault them as I know alot of places would not have taken it back - so thanks beedspeed! Any way I get the replacement fly wheel back this week and the really good news is that it's not catching so I'm made up with that Bad news is still no spark! Swapped out the cdi for one I know works. No joy. Went to see what checks I could do on the stator and I can't get the fly wheel off cos the thread is different in my puller. Looking at eBay there seems to be double ended pullers - so I'm hoping there are only two possible thread sizes? The replacement fly wheel is pk single key way type Also any advice on how I can check the stator would be great If I had timing massively out would that mean no spark? I fear I may be asking beedspeed for another return

Oh, do you think so. Towards the top or the rear? If I was to make an L shaped bracket so that it sits flay against the engine casing do you think I would have enough room against the flywheel side of the frame?

When you get it off check if there are 2 key ways on the flywheel, some are for dual motors so if you it on wrong one then it won't spark (I think).

Hi Triffid. This is single keyway. The previous one was duel. Am I right in that only 2 thread sizes?
