great stuff James - hats off to you for taking the time with all the barrel tuning/fixings etc looks lovely and look forward to going for a ride with one day out in the Cambridgeshire countryside...impressed with the gasket making...your mum has some nice workshop kit!! Cheers Nick Oh, and the gasket making required a trip to my godfather's - his garage is a treasure trove full of lathes and drills and whatnot...

I was in Abu Dhabi a couple of years ago. Stayed at the Rotana Beach resort. Found a lovely little curry house in centre though I can't remember its name. Way too hot for an Englishman though. Going out in the morning from the luxury of air con was like getting into the oven and then going back inside was like getting in the fridge. Can't be good for you.

Ah, I can see the resort from my window; I'm on Reem Island, a new island development full of sand, glass and the unending sound of construction. I think I'm finally adjusting to the temperature... braved the beach at the weekend, 37C but the water is almost refreshing. Still a bit like a hot bath on a hot day...

Nice one Jimmy, hope you laid it up properly befor eyou left it or are you getting your mum to pop out each week to turn the engine over Enjoy the sand, did 10 months in Riyadh when I was a bit younger, interesting place but you have to keep your wits about you for the loonies on the road, I got run off after 2 weeks! Mind you not as scary as the drive across the desert at about 110mph with around 100m visability from the heat wave.

Nearly four years ago I put this 99%-complete project into storage and flew to a new life in Abu Dhabi, just missing my chance to ever ride her. Yesterday, she came home. Thankfully, in one piece. A few spots of rust (the new rims have rusted, frustratingly). Can't wait to finish off the last few bits, sort the jetting, fit my new Streamline seat and take her out! Considering I started work on this project six years ago, it'll be amazing to finally get her running.

Looks sweet...will have to make good on that promise of a ride out... I'm trying to convince my wife I need a VW T5 to move it around in. And, er, for wonderful camping trips with her, of course... Oh and I've been doing some architectin' (hooray for online 3D modelling apps). This is what I'm having built in the back garden over the next couple of months. Just under 20sqm internal space. The wooden doors have since been swapped for a low profile roller door as I realised I wouldn't be able to open barn doors with a car on the drive... Again, as far as my wife is concerned this isn't a man cave, it's a multi-use space that will house gym equipment and art gear with a small area reserved for my motorcycle/scooter.

really nice scooter and engine building. The large-scale oil plug can shake off, large heads screws are not good for carburettors and engines that they get a shaking effect If it has more metal on end.

Hi Jimmy, I'm doing the opposite to you, I moved back to Dubai a year ago and have since bought a V100 and Rally 200 which are both waiting for me to restore back in the Uk when i plan to return in another six years or so. Great thread, which will help when I do my restorations in a few years time. Incidentally, did you make the engine stand or buy it? if so, where did you get it from? Cheers,
Nick.

Hi Nick, That's a long time for those scoots to be waiting what are you doing out in the sandpit? The stand was built by Breezer, though I haven't seen him round these parts in a while... anyone know where he is?

Hi Jimmy, I work at the Airports, I'm having the Rally restored by a mate in slow time when he's not busy, but I'm going to do the V100 myself when I get back. I had a V100 as my first scoot back in '82, so have always wanted another to reminisce, but I'm planning on upgrading it and improving it, so will start buying all the bits for when I get back.

Lucky man with the Rally 200. I've been looking for one for a few years but even my Dubai millions won't stretch to how much I see them going for...
