jimmy...got your regulator.....let me know when you need it and will meet up Nice one, thanks! You free one evening this week? I'm not around this weekend or next (and next weekend I'm at my Mum's working on the scoot) so if I can swing by and grab it that'd be great. If you're able to sneak off for a pint that'd be even greater. PM/text me. Thanks for correction on the cable

Should be able to buy project soon. I doubt if it'll ever be as smart as your 90, though!

Jimmy......the trim looks great, it looks as good as the rest of the scooter. How well does it stay in place, does it need pushing or knocking on?

Just pushing - very easy to put on, and then there's some light adhesive inside that holds it in place. Time will tell if that adhesive lasts, but we'll see

You know I was saying I though some leg trim looked too bulky on some small frames.. well this doesn't.. it looks great.. it's really thin and sleek.. If I ever decide to put some on my bike down the line, I'm going to be asking you about it! Looks really great man!

Right, a bit of engine work today.... Starting with NOS PK50 XL casings: A few oddities, namely the anti-taper groove cut into the sealing pad. Spoilsports. No matter, I'm advised by a few trustworthy individuals that devcon/JB will hold here. Marked for removal... Opened up... Original transfers... Ported for Polini 130. Got a bit close to the edge on the right hand side, should be okay, might extend the raised face using JB Weld just in case. The barrel, which Mr Amazombi has been working his magic on: Exhaust port widened/adjusted, ports opened at the bottom, top skimmed... again all Mathias' work. PK flywheel milled by Beedspeed from 2.8kg down to 1.8kg. Enough for a nice road scoot, hopefully. And just a quick test to check all fits well enough! That's it for now. Next step is to cut the crank. Wish me luck with that! After that, get a final parts order sorted and put it all together. Currently working on timings/packer combinations, based on Amazombi's adjustments. Looking like timings will be: Exhaust: 186 Transfers: 120 Squish: 1mm Should make that PM40 sing!

Jimmy, why didn't you have the cases milled to gain more gasket area for the barrel?

Jimmy, why didn't you have the cases milled to gain more gasket area for the barrel? Simply a question of cost it cost me £70 to have it done on previous cases, and as these are brand new casings I wanted to avoid it. Also, i originally opened up the transfers on the casings to match the Polini barrel. I didn't realise Mathias was going to open the transfers on the barrel too, which meant going back and opening them even more. If you know anywhere that'll do it much cheaper than that, i might consider it.

I was just interested to see if there was any particular reason or advantage behind it. I'm at about the same stage as you are with my cases and was about to start looking for somewhere to mill my cases but think I might not bother if it isn't much of an issue. Suppose it just means adjusting port timing with a spacer/gasket to suit if required?

Suppose it just means adjusting port timing with a spacer/gasket to suit if required? The main advantage of skimming is 1) for larger kits (ie. Polini Evo and above), you need the extra face to open the ports to the right size 2) If you've had *any* welding done you need to skim, I didn't and all seemed fine until it was pissing petrol/oil mix out of the gasket a few miles down the road 3) Just if you have old cases which are a bit tired, it makes them nice and flat and shiny again. And yeah, if you skim 1mm you get a 1mm spacer and so on.

Carb porn! Based on previous discussions, I've jetted the Keihin PWK 28 with the following: - 135 main - 40ish idle - JJK to JJN needle @ 2nd clip I'll go from there and see where it gets me. I bought all the BGM jet and needle sets I could possibly need for the job. The BGM finger-grip air mix screw is nice too. Just hoping this all fits inside the frame! That's a Polini "3 stud PK engine in V range frame" special manifold, btw. Needs a bit of opening up, this was just a test to see how it looks.

Looks great Jimmy! What do all those pipes do?

Looks great Jimmy! What do all those pipes do? They're ventilation tubes (this is a motocross 'quad vent' model), apparently used to keep dirt and water out of the carb but still allow the carb to maintain atmospheric pressure, even when doing epic motocross jumps! And one of them is an overflow tube to stop the engine getting flooded if the float sticks. I think they look cool, but probably totally unneeded in a smallie. Might trim them down, at least!

Looks very nice mate. And yeah, regarding the skimming of the gasket face, just noticed the other day that you are indeed correct about it being necessary with the Evo kit, took my transfers out with the dremel and was intending on leaving a couple of mm but it just wasn't going to blend properly. So on the hunt for a machine shop to do the work now, more money!

you dont need the tubes on the carb if you dont want them, i took them off my pwk as there a pain in the arse inside the frame, you may find the 135 main a bit rich for the 28 and find you may need 125- 128
