Can make a swap for a rotary one if your interessted....

U mean this one, John? www.sip-scootershop.com/Products/204710/Manifold+MALOSSI+V50ET3.aspxAs far as I can tell from the picture you won't be able to turn that 180 degrees; the carb inlet would be horizontal. But thanx anyway! Baggyballs, it seems like we have the same Malossi set with crank intake, but I got some interference with the flywheel housing when inverting the setup. I'll post some pictures of possible manifold setup later today. :-)

Okey, some pictures of the setup: Malossi reed intake with 25mm Dellorto, as it should be fitted... 180 degrees inverted... Does not fit without either milling away the flange on the flywheel surrounding... or adding a 10-15mm spacer. Fuck it, I'll just fit the Falc kit instead... ;-) Well, adding a spacer is doable, but I just might go back to original plan and place the carb inside. Clean & mean, but TIGHT.

love the photos- seems a shame to build the scoot and hide all those works of engineering art. Good luck with the build and lets have more photos

Hmmm, haven't decided yet on the carb placement, I'll let it rest for a while. I've got a slight delay with the guy who was going to machine the casings for me; he can't machine before August!!! Looking for alternatives! Since last time, I've been quite busy: 1. Sandblasted a few more parts for Ferdinand. 2. Sourced some parts for my *surprise* lights... ;-) This might actually work! 3. Spent a great great great deal of time on SIP online shop... 4. Sourced a *surprise* seat padding... 5. Started some minor design work on the body of Ferdinand. Pictures! Ordinary front grill looks dull... Clip clip... Add some grille mesh... Voila! Lamborghini style! :-) Same with engine door: Original door... Clip clip... Some fine blacksmith art skills... Voila! Lamborghini style door... ;-) Good night!

I think I may well have to steal that idea for my horncasting, those are the one difficult-to-rectify-and-get-it-to-look-good aspect of a 50 Special's design!

Hehe,
go ahead... :-)
Totally agree, the original look of the horncast is hard to rectify... ;-)

F**k! Still have an issue with getting the engine casing machined. Had some progress on the chassis however: Degreasing and high pressure water washing Ferdinand revealed a good condition chassis... Left side with the usual marks on the bubble... No big dents in the front... Very little rust inside! :-) Right side OK... Underneath needs blasting... Engine compartment pretty good condition... Couldn't resist test fitting the lid... :-) Hmmm, I might consider not sandblasting the whole body in this condition... :-)

Back from summer holidays!
No progress on Ferdinand the last two weeks, but I'll see if I can put some work into it soon. Stay tuned... :-)

I would go with the PK forks and grimeca kit, less hassle and they look better.

Yeah,
I'll post some pictures when the parts arrive.

Buy the welder, show off you alu welding skills, and expect visitors form Bergen who need some alu welding done btw, you will have a hard time fitting a std. mudguard to the ET steering column, the mounting bracket for the fender is bloody close to the frame.

Hehe,
I might just do that... Bought some TIG welding manuals on Amazon.com, going to read them first... ;-)
The ET2 fork comes complete with front mud guard, can this mudguard be used?
I'll post some pictures when dryfitting.
Yes, expected SOME trouble mounting the original SF mudguard with this setup, but overcomable... :-)

Postman Pat dropped by yesterday with the ET2/ET4 fork! ET2/ET4 fork... again... Some setups to consider: first try with ET2 mudguard... would actually fit with some minor mods to the ET2/ET4 mudguard. Max steering angle is somewhat limited. Has anybody seen a smallframe with ET2 mudguard? I'd like to see a finished result of this! The mudguard touches the frame on max steering. Could (perhaps) be fixed by modifying the mudguard. The side view is somewhat odd, the mudguard looks too short. Main issue with ET2/ET4 fork for smallframe, is that you need a donor SF fork top end to weld onto the shortened ET2/ET4 fork. The two forks differ a lot where the mudguard is attached. I would say that installing an ET2/ET4 fork complete with mudguard is doable: 1. Some modification will need to be done with the back of the mudguard to prevent touching the Smallframe chassis. 2. Speedo cable and hydraulic brake hose is NOT routed through fork, so you will get some issues on where to route these. Overcomable, trouble is to get it to look good. :-) 3. Donor SF fork needed, weld top of SF fork to bottom of ET2 fork, shorten to match SF chassis. Next possible setup: SF mudguard on ET2/ET4 fork! This picture illustrates probably how challenging it will be to adapt a SF mudguard to the ET2/ET4 fork. Probably doable if you are willing and able to modify a SF mudguard to the extreme... :-) Last route: Fenderless or with a hugger mudguard. Absolutely a possible route, but not for this project. This shot perhaps also shows that the ET2/ET4 fork would raise the bike a few centimeters in the front. Well, I'm not convinced that any of these three is the way to go for this particular project. So I might just put the ET2/ET4 fork on the shelf and go the Grimeca way with this. Comments and links to setups (both Grimeca and ET2/ET4 fork) wanted! Has anybody got a link to a decent ET2/ET4 modified fork on a SF with either a SF mudguard or a ET2/ET4 mudguard? I would really like to see the finished result! :-)
