A mate has just started a media blasting company so i took the casings and headset to him to soda blast. I told him not to hit the bearings just give it a light clean on the outside to remove the shit. Dickhead went everywhere and the bearings are now solid. I used hot water to free them then wd40 and they spin fine but I'm not happy about rebuilding it like that so I got a full set of new bearings from simply bearings. Got to be worth the £30 just for the peace of mind.
Sprayed the fork and primed and sprayed the front hub ready for rebuild.

Thanks to Firebreak lockdown, there will be some progress on this. Front hub- new bearings, seal and pads fitted and rebuilt Gear change selector- race linkage fitted to give it a precise change 3 Bearings fitted to drive side casing Oil seal fitted to drive side I started to rebuild the front fork by fitting the shock and front hub but as usual one tiny part, a shock rubber, wasn't ordered. I'd ordered 1 but needed 2 ffs! Rookie mistake. Anyway it's on order now. Flywheel side casing (the bastard side as I call it) bearings change this week. Whereas the drive side took me 15 minutes I can see the fly side taking hours due to the 2 blind bearings and the bearing fitted to the crank. Thanks for reading.

I'll be fitting a VMC variable timing flywheel system- . Do you think it'll be the same timing settings as when I did the ProCup?
Anyone?

Productive day. Crank bearing removed And new one refitted Blind drive bearing removed And a new one refitted Crank re-installed in cases Clutch bell refitted Not forgetting the all important circlip I thought I'd done it fairly quickly and when I checked the time stamps on the photos it appears I did it all in 18 minutes. I have a feeling that it's going to go massively wrong just to balance up the success of today.

Ha! As I thought the little bastard had revenge. Went to rebuild the engine and the wavy washer from the gear selector had mysteriously disappeared despite being put in a bag with all the selector parts. Must have been the garage pixies nicked it. Instead I finished the fork and rubbed down the tank cap. Seems it was originally orange, then red, then white, then blue, then red again. That means it HAS to been green this time. Ok more parts ordered and should be here for Friday so hopefully it should be a weekend with progress.

Productive couple of hours in the workshop. Kickstart fitted Gear cluster fitted Gear selector fitted Engine cases closed although despite being bagged and labelled, the garage pixies had hidden one engine bolt which took me 20 minutes to find. Shits! N.B. the fly seal was fitted after the photo was taken Primary drive fitted and torqued Clutch fitt.. oh hang on... the bloody woodruff key that fits in that slot is nowhere to be found. Ah well. On stop. "Waiting for parts"

It’s coming on, and yes those workshop fairies definitely make things frustrating, your sure you ordered a part/clip/washer, you even check your old order details but something always goes missing! I lost the star clip off the back of the panel lock, turned up down the side of the sofa 🤣

The clutch woodruff key can be left out, it only makes it a little easier to start tightening the clutch nut,
A few of the aftermarket clutches do not have a slot for the w- key

I've ordered it now and it's arriving before the weekend so I think I'll wait. You just know it'll be a bastard of a job if I don't.

A tip, put tissue or a rag under the primary when putting the woodruff key in, the little bugger has a great habit of falling out and landing straight in the gearbox, so resplitting the casings is the usual result

Bloody garage pixies! The woodruff key arrived so I looked for the holding nut and lo and behold the old woodruff key was in the bag with it. Anyway, off we go! Clutch fitted Pressure plate and gasket fitted Rear hub fitted Cylinder fitted, not forgetting to make sure the ring ends are slotted into where the notches are on the piston! Head fitted and torqued Right, lets fit the intake pipe. Naturally the new gasket will be in the pack I bought. The f*** it is! Four versions on the exhaust but NO intake. Shit. Never mind I'll fit the exhaust outlet pipe. And as I can't pressure test it because of the inlet gasket I might as well spray the first part of the exhaust with VHT And that's it, no real problems. I have a couple more checks to make then I think I'll send the tins for paint.

Fruitful day in the workshop. Inlet manifold fitted, and elbow removed from outlet manifold as it wasn't needed. Leak test performed and passed! Carb serviced. It was a faulty one I'd brought back from my other Vespa in Italy. It was making the engine rev it's bollocks off and you'd have to stall it to stop the engine. It was puzzling as I'd done a full service on it 6 months earlier. When I stripped it down I found that the choke jet/screw had loosened itself and this was causing the problem. result! Stator fitted and set. Flywheel fitted and torqued. I would have started it but the carb clamp was from the old 16 16 carb and I've now fitted a 19 19 and didn't fit. Didn't matter anyway as I didn't have the right spark plug so I ordered both. And finally, new speedo cable and front brake cable fitted. Sprayer has no space for me until after Christmas so, as I have lots of time now, I'll be fitting the new loom and full cable set and then bagging the ends to protect them. More importantly, if the clamp and plug arrive it'll be ready to start... try and start it next week. Yay!

Engine all wired up ready for starting. Oil filled. Bench running tank connected. Choke out. Prime it with a few slow kicks. AAAANND BIG kick, putt putt, almost starts.... next kick should do it... shit..petrol pissing out of the carb! STOP! The carb was one that was on my orange Vespa in Italy and was always problematic despite servicing it- twice! When I rebuilt the yellow one I fitted a bigger carb and then took the standard one to Italy, fitted it to the orange one and it worked perfectly. I brought the problem one back to the uk, stripped it down and found one jet really loose and assumed this was the problem. It appears not. I took it apart again and checked the float wasn't leaking, and that the needle valve was fitting perfectly by closing it and blowing through the petrol supply pipe. No problem there apart from the taste. I cleaned the valve where the needle valve fits with carb cleaner and put it back together. It still leaked. Pissing it from the throttle body, not the float chamber as I thought. Feck it. Internet, click, buy new carb. N.B. the mount for the CDI & regulator (the black and silver boxes) is temporary. I'm still working out where to stick them. CDI on the engine but not sure about the regulator as I'm going for a single seat so not sure if the brackets they sell will fit. Any ideas? So I'm pretty sure it would have started had the carb not been a wanker. New carb arriving this week so should be on for a start next Sunday. In the mean time I fitted one new Michelin tyre and tube. Funny thing, I ordered the second tyre a day after the first and it's still not arrived. Postwats!

Well the bloody thing actually started! Always amazes me. ETA Just watched it on the big screen and it looks like one of those shit advert for watches Thought the pipe would be a bit louder than that and I'm also not happy with the clearance for the rear wheel... So I bought one of these and fitted it. Trouble is now it wont fit in the engine stand to try it out. Time to buy a decent engine stand that'll let me do this. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Then I had an old brass kickplate and I'd just bought my first angle grinder so I decided to make this holder for the reg and cdi No too shabby for my first attempt. The front hub is jamming on the Newfren pads just as I finish tightening the little locator bolt so I've ordered a new set of normal ones and hope they solve the problem. More stuff for the box of spares. Second tyre never turned up from Italy. The bastard said he'd put 2 in 1 delivery and now it's under investigation with Ebay. All for a £27 tyre ffs! As I have time before it goes for paint I might fit the new loom and cables and then bag up the ends to keep out the dust. After that it'll be time to relocate the SIP speedo control box in the yellow one from the headset to under the seat. I'll also be connecting it to the intelli converter I bought from scootronics a while back, to stop the speedo re-setting on tickover. Thrilling!

Here are the latest updates in case you have trouble sleeping: Engine is now finished with the fan and cylinder cover fitted along with the new wheel and tyre Took the manky footbrake and made it beautiful again Changed the pads for standard and it works fine now. It's due for paint soon but I might try and fit the new loom and cables and bag each end to stop dust. It means less chance to scratch the paint after it's done. It's also the only job left that I can do before paint. Thanks for watching
