Picked this up off a lad on facebook who was pretty local. 1974 v90. Came with a new 12v loom,cables,pk50 engine minus top end including 12v kit. And pk125 forks. Paid 500 squid for it which in my eyes is a billy bargain. Its had a poor repaire done to both sides of the floor but the checker plate hides this. Once my v100 is done i`ll fit a new floor but time and money doesnt permit at this time. Oh and it was hand painted with the garden sweeping brush! lol. So here it is as bought. So stripped it down and ive rubbed all the paint down so that next weekend i can put it into high build primer then top coat on sunday. And a pic of both scooters. So plan is to grab an ets crank from stoffi`s and use a dr135 kit ive got kicking about. Need some 125 primary`s and a rear hub. Also a carb and manifold. Dont want this any where near perfect its just something i can thrash about town on and not have to worry too much. Its very much a budget build and i`ll be using as many parts that i already have as possible.

Yeah I agree H. If you work out the cost of the parts alone it makes it a bargain. Hopefully be on the road in afew weeks time.

Im pretty lucky having the workshop. Its 60x40ft and its got my chevette estate, astra mk1 estate and the mk4 astra spares car in and theres still plenty of room. Just got to get the floor concreted where you can see the bricks. Only downfall is its 15 miles away on a farm so got to make it worthwhile if i go up there. Got a work bench in the dining room at the moment so i can build the engine at home.

Built the gearbox up with new drt selector after work today. Took an age to get the uprated spring in the balls kept flying all over. Then started porting the engine. just about there with a little tidying up left to do. Just the inlet to do next. Then stuck til i can afford the crank. Makes such a difference having the workbench in the dining room so i can have 5 minutes to have a tinker here and there.

Well this aint so budget anymore lol. Had a little bonus from work so have ordered a malossi mk2 kit from Italy with the alloy head. Finished all the porting and took the sealing pad right out as im going to run the polini reed valve. Nicked all the parts from my polini evo build so the spec so far is mazzy race crank, polini reedvalve,pk gears,DRT selector and short 4th runner tree,27/69 upgear kit,Pk xl2 clutch with 12 springs and 4 carbon plates, pinasco variable 12v ignition and 1.2kg flywheel. And lastly the pm40 evo pipe. Put the cases in the oven to get the bearings in,I do love this method the bearings just fall in no problem. And lastly a shot of the workbench in use. I used the dr kit to check the porting work. Hopefully it should all make a nice motor capable of shifting my lard arse around.

Hi Olly. I put it on 180 and leave the cases in for 10 mins then keep checking if its ready. If your taking the bearings out they sometimes just fall out in the oven. Wish i'd have known about this way years ago rather than struggling with blowtorches and hammers but some how dont think my mother would have been pleased with me using the aga for this lol.

180 degrees is just about right to put the oven chips and pizza in after the bearings come out , kill two birds with one stone and have some food after , the Mrs will be well impressed when you shout ' suppers ready '

This project has taken alittle longer than i planned. Got a bad chest infection then a bout of man flu so wasnt up to the spraying. Today i made a little spray booth in the workshop best i could just to keep alittle dust off. Got the primer out but before i`d even finished putting the first coat onto the frame i could see it reacting. Looks like the celly thinners is reacting with the red oxide primer that the previous owner used. The headset, panel door and back light primed up fine as they didnt have any red oxide on them. The mudguard reacted too. So ive just ordered 1l of barcoat to seal it up and a new spray gun too. Hopefully be able to get it done and topcoated next weekend. Engine wise im just waiting on the malossi barrel coming back from tzsteve who`s milling alittle from the top. It needed raising alittle to get the ports to sit flush with the top of the piston so what steves taking off the top of the barrel with get the squish right again. Once thats back its all systems go.

not sure thats reacting with the primer ,not "mud cracking" like it has with me . looks like there was a contaminant like silicon the paint wont adhere too , but if other stuff was ok an didnt have the red oxide paint it must be that . i hate painting , an find new n interesting? ways to mess it up everytime . I love it. Well i do when it goes right lol. I panel wiped the full lot down first as always. It got worst than in the pic once it had been on for 20 minutes or so. Where i`d sanded through the previous grey primer to the red oxide it was only reacting on these area`s. You could lift the red oxide off with your finger it was that soft. The stuff that didnt react had had a coat of zinc 182 etch primer first then this high build primer on top which was totally fine. If it hadnt have been easter i could have popped to the body supplies shop and picked a tin of barcoat up and carried on with in acouple of hours but it seems jesus doesnt want this scoot to live.

Your only option in my opinion is to sand the scoot back so that you go through the red oxide and back to the original primer or even back to bare metal , I've done a bit of painting in my time , I'm by no means an expert but every time I've had a reaction I've always had to sand it back to bare metal / plastic .
Henri , the ' mud cracking ', you've described is because you didn't let the primer dry fully , what's happened is over time the primer has sunk as it wasn't fully dried and that's why your paint has cracked to reveal the primer .

Just going to sand it back smooth and give it acouple of coats of barcoat isolator. Should have just done that in the first place. I dont really like painting over old paint i like to get things blasted first back to bare metal but was trying to keep the cost of this scoot down.
