Thanks for the encouragement. Now I need to find an SS90 to measure-up, and enough space to make-up some kind of jig.

what do you want to end up with ? if you want to do a copy which looks like a ss90 you are better off getting a v90 short frame
i would not cut the beam !
i would take the frame apart were the beam joins the back half and moving it back 25mm ,there is no need to cut a bit out its should just slide back it has a double skin so would be a lot stronger

but that wont work as you will be left with a gap as the beam tapers.

the beam has taper all the way along, you will still have a small gap if you cut it were he has marked the frame
i have a primavera frame and a spare tank i will put it together with a 3/50 tyre to see what it looks like

What are you thinking of doing to the leg shield underneath your planned v-section addition?
I don't think it'd be possible to widen the tunnel/add a v-section at the point you've indicated - the floorpan at the curve where it goes from horizontal to vertical has an extra indent to give it extra strength. Even if you separate the tunnel from the legshield underneath the v-section, once you stretch it, it'll be too wide to match up to the indent.
If anything, you'd be better taking it apart at the rear join and trying the widening trick with a v-section there. While you're at it maybe you'll find a whole new arse end you could graft on from a frontal smashed scoot.

here are a few photos of my new ss90 1st photo shows a 3/50 tyre 2nd photo shows a 90/90 tyre (42cm) 3rd photos shows a 80/90 tyre (39cm) i would use a 90/90 or a 3/50 tyre i am sure you could fill the gap up by packing the tank out were it bolts on to the front of the frame and move the seat foward a bit

allsorts just in case you feel the urge to take the frame back to Motovespa spec now that you may have a new tail end, here is a pic of the mounting points for the rear wheel carrier. Good luck with the project either way...

Hi, Thanks for the photo. The frame is going SS90 route now, but the photos are useful as I have little knowledge of small frames and need all the help I can get. I also happily acknowledge that the Spanish can make better scooters than the Italians. I sight the Spanish Lambretta as a superior version to the Innocenti machine, with better welding and more strengtheners. If MotorVespa put as much effort into their frames as Servetta, then the strengtheners shown in your photo will be useful.

No worries the ss didn't have the large support shown in the pic yet if I was you I'd put all the strength into that joint you are going to make when it comes to shortening that frame. IMHO what you are about to do is pretty worthwhile. It helps stoke the market for someone to start making complete 90ss repro frames if not bigger sections and from an engineering perspective it's far out. Keep the pics coming, get the frame sorted and the rest should be fairly easy! I'm sure you'll find plenty of help and advice here. There are some really knowledgable folk around so don't give up!
Meantime I don't suppose you picked up the Spanish legshield glovebox with that frame by any chance did you? ;-)

oh dear! Well let me know if you change your mind as I've just got what I thought was one back from the sand blaster and it has turned out to be a bit of tinpot rubbish my resto-espaniol is set way back without it! Perhaps we can work something out if you do.
