Or piston rings? Tom take the top end off and you'll soon see whether it was piston seize or rings. If not any of those sounds like a bottom end strip but start with the easy bits flywheel & clutch woodruff keys etc. Fingers crossed it's nowt serious mate

Got cylinder off and piston out. It would appear that it did have a bit of a seize. Also dented the top of the piston somehow Now I don't really want to spend too much on putting this right as I fancy getting hold of one of those procup 125 M1 copies at some point in the next few months so unwilling to spend much now. So advice welcomed as to what the cheapest fix for this is - I've pinged the rings out of the piston but they have each left a 10mm section right where the seize was. I'm sure they can be removed & hopefully the piston & barrel tidied up? I have got a spare standard 125 cylinder head and piston, so may well revert to that for the time being

No, that really doesn't look good.... big bummer mate As Max suggested, looks like a rebore and new piston would be you're cheapest option with this cylinder. I'd go with the standard 125 you have and save your pennies for the M1. That dent in the top of the piston is a bit strange?

Yowzer tom, that's a bit buggered mate Couple of Q's - got a picture of the plug colour? And do you run an open carb, looks like a wood screw has left an impression on ya piston crown Do any of the gasket faces offer a clue to a possible air leak? Also a piccy of the head if poss mate ;D

Plug is a nice biscuit brown colour & actually the inside of the head looks really clean, just a slight brownishness to it. Gasket faces all looked good too. The dent in the piston is a mystery. i think Tonys suggestion of fuel starvation is right. Typically I had just got past a car on a nice fast A road, was feeling a bit full of it and was seeing how fast I could go. After a long day at work with thunderclouds looming up ahead I thought If I tanked it I would get there in the dry - how wrong could I be?? Two and a bit hours sat in the drizzling cold, mobile phone battery on the verge of dying, not sure even if the recovery people knew where I was.... Still I aim to repeat the journey next weekend, hopefully back on two wheels! rob - would a 125 piston work with a DR130 cylinder? If so definitely interested but will wait for confirmation from those with more knowledge than I....

No, you need a 130 piston... the 125 is smaller bore for starters. btw, did you chamfer the ports? looks just like my fathers DR after riding 2up on the motorway with a slight airleak due to mismatched casings....

Hi mate. The woodscrew mark looks like it got so hot you got det off the sparkplug. But I reckon the heat was probably caused by starvation. You may need a bigger valve in the carb and poss fuel tap mod to achieve the flow. That piston is scrap. Barrel may hone out but more than likely needs a bore. I'd also say that the motor needed squishing up properly looking at that piston. The gap is too large I think, certainly on one side anyway.

Cheers Tony - I think I am going to fit my standard pk125 cylinder and stick to pootling around for a little while as cash as always is tight! Sip want 35 quid for a new piston, so its a false economy really to revive this kit at that (only cost me 60 all up) unless something crops up here or on ebay!

Thought the cylinder might be a 125, if you were going to get it honed then the first oversized piston that I've got should be ok. If it any help, you can have it All the best with the rebuild Rob

Shit Tom not good at all as you know I'm running a similar spec to you so I'm keen to get it sorted. Question for Tony ( sorry about the hijack Tom) how do you go about converting a standard small frame petrol tap into a fast flow item?
