Okay, I've got the re-bored barrel back with a new piston.
I have some virgin pk50 cases - which I'm going to be putting a cut crank, HP4, 24 mil carb & simmonini D&F exhaust on. Cases will be matched to cylinder.
What sort of inlet timings etc should I be looking for? What gearing do you think I should use? What ignition timing?
Cheers
Jim

I seem to recall needing a couple of brass bits last time as well - a brass washer and something else - I think for the clutch.
Am I imagining it?

Hi Jim,
I have a polini 130, 24phbl, mazz crank, and standard gearing on my primmy, the PM40 may be helping but unless there is a hill or head wind I wouldn't say that 4th is that much of a problem.. It will pull to top speed from low down in the revs, but if its keeping the acceleration equivalent to that of third, (after thrashing this gear) then you really do need to be high up in the revs to match it, otherwise, just sit back a bit and you are there before you know it!!
You are more than welcome to have a go to see what you think before taking the plunge filling it full of gears, and then having to strip it again to swap...
16degrees is what I run at..
would have to pass on the brass things mate...

Jim, I ran a standard polini130 with 2.54 (standard gears) and a SIMONINI d&F. 25mil rotary valve and mazz crank. the above setup with the d&f pipe was absolutely shite . 4th was slower than 3rd and all the power was sapped. Put a leo back on and it was like a different bike regards top end and torqueyness. With hindsight if i'd of lowered the primary to 2.86 or run with a zirri short fourth I'm sure it would have been great. As previously discussed there are a number of pipes that don't hit the powerband till about 6k and you need to gear accordingly. IMHO of course.

Shane - yours is an ET3 innit?
Mike - 2.86 my only concern is that I run out of top end / screaming it's tits off type of thing. The Leo accelerates well, but don't seem to want to hold any gears for long, and is rubbish at top end.
I don't understand it. That's with a 2.56 gear

Been re-reading the exhaust review from scootering a few months back.
Looking at the D&F it gives a really good HP reading, but also has a very respectable looking torque reading.
I suppose all in all a PM40 would be best suited to the Polini 130 kit, which for the PK (££££'s aside) wouldn't be a problem but for the primmy I REALLY don't want to lose the lhs toolbox.
I know the test bed for the article was a malossi kit which is revvier than the polini, is it possible to do any work to the polini kit to release some extra revs?

I've got a JL pipe on my Primavera and it works well, plus, I got to keep the toolbox. It doesn't give much torque though. Most of the power is in the upper rpms. It's the only pipe beside the polini/leo vinci that I have found that will work without loosing the toolbox.

What barrel do you have on there?

I'm running a malossi barrel. I'm pretty sure the polini would give you more torque than the malossi barrel.

Ad, the malossi is at the back of my mind... but I've just forked out for the re-bore & piston, so I'd really like to use the polini. I reckon you can eke a few more revolutions from the 132cc special though. HP4 will help a bit anyway, won't it Gonna have to split the prim engine at some point to have a look at the gearbox, so might whack this spare 2.86 primary in it, but will deffo try your d&f on it first, see what that does. There is a spare set of cases in the garage though that might fancy a malossi barrel...
