Hi all, I have just had a strange email from the wife asking for info on variotronic ignitions and engine casings!!!! now she is either taking the piss, or I may be getting a treat....
So, which is best
vespatronic variotronic parmakit version?
and on the casings front, which do I avoid?? from what I have picked up, I need to steer clear of 90 casings and pkxl2 with the naff single cable gear change mechanism!! what about electric start ones too, never gonna have the starter in so how does this affect it?

do you talk in your sleep shane? maybe she keeps hearing the words....snore..snore.....vespatronic!......grunt....snore....parmakit!..........variotronic..........;D
suspect terry may give you a better answer on these as he fits and sells them, the parma's cheaper i think. youre right with old 90 and xl2 casings, electric starts no problem, the only difference are the cogs round the flywheel and the starter motor, which can easily be taken off and the hole blanked up if you dont use it.
what do you need casings for anyway? you got a new project on the go?

Hey up pal, they're all the same mate, well use the same bits anyway......vespatronic is the best priced. i have a vespatronic ignition, it has a good 8 degrees of advance/retard, which means you can set your ignition up with good advance so it has great power low in the revs, but it retards later so you dont start pinging and holing pistons at high revs. i thought the quality is good, but curare doesnt think so (heres his thread)- tinyurl.com/yvztdyi think hes expecting it to be as good as a modern motorcycle ignition, which it definatly isnt. the curve isnt as flash, and only 8 degrees is a little old fashion nowadays. but as a bolt on performance enhancer its great. the normal parma kit ignition is cheaper than the vespatronic. but noe parmakit have a "race version. sip have no info on it, but its more expensive and weighs the same. not sure what it improves concidering they are just modded ignitions of another modern scoot. paul

as for cases, you want the latest pk cases they came out with before the pkxl2. they have a stronger, thicker swing arm bar. three studs to hold on the manifold, and have a better designed circular gear cable holder off the engine (sometimes doesnt come with the engine when you buy the cases). i dont think they need to be 125 casses, as i had a great set of cases that came from an indonesan pk50.

Cheers for that gents, Hank, was just thinking (and must have mentioned to the missus) that it would be a good idea to have a spare engine as a just incase, what with it being riden daily.. and mine seems to have developed a nasty rattle and expect it to bust its crank or something soon... Pj, I have read currares thread, looks like you have had a lot of ignitions.. I am assuming that they are all an improvement over standard et3?! Also 8degrees is surley enough if on a standard cylinder its set to 21, and on polini it says 16, thats gives a further 3 degrees to play with (assuming 1.5 either side..) so although a little old fashioned, should still be more than enough for job??? Ad, don't you run vespatronic? Also, what would you guys say abot this motor? cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vespa-Piaggio-V50-N-V-50-PK-Motor-komplett-Engine_W0QQitemZ180192342632QQihZ008QQcategoryZ82182QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemCheers
