Hi All, another question as I am nearing the end of stripping my 90 down. Is there a special trick to removing the footbrake? I have unbolted it from underneath, but can only pull it out so far, before the mechanism doent want to come out through the hole (cable is disconnected from drum!). As with all things I have learned so far when pulling this bike apart, its a lot easier when you know what you are doing! Cheers, Tom

Have you taken the rubber bit off?? Do you mean the rubber bit of the pedal? If so yes, well actually its missing anyhow. Its more the mechanism underneath where it goes up into the tunnel that is not wanting to come out.

i also disconnect the cable at the brake, it makes it easier (open up the brake, i.e. push the pedal down as though you were braking and pull out the pin, unhook the cable and disconnect the wire connections)

I had a crack at it last night with no joy - maybe Im just being thick, will tray again tonight when I get home!

hi mate, rubber off as adspeed said, Compress the brake slightly as hank said and you have to get the rear (hidden) part of the pedal out first. You then rotate the pedal until the shorter bit of the lug(bit rubber goes on) on the pedal arm will clear in the hole..hey presto.

Thanks, will try that later, It could well be that there was a large spider hanging on to the pedal mechanism, hopefully he will have gone when I get home..

This is making me look like more of an idiot than usual, had another crack at it last night but with no joy. I removed the split pin that holds the foot lever to the mechanism. At the end of the hinging pin is a slot for a screwdriver, but couldnt get that to turn even after a soaking in wd. Should I be able to get the whole thing out in one piece or would it be easier if I could get the foot lever off?

It should come out in one piece, have you got all the bolts out?? Got any pics, we might be able to see something wrong??

All bolts and nuts are out, the mechanism pulls away from the body and gets to a point where the pedal is as far as the hole in the frame, but the mechanism itself will not pull out of its hole any further. Will try to get some pics sorted - cant be beaten by this one!!!

done it!! was just catching on something enough to make me worry about forcing it out - got a bigger screwdriver in there and a little leverage and out it popped - feel a little stupid however that that took me four days to work out. next question posted seperately...
