Hi , i have a Vespa 50S 1969 that is most probably made in or for Japanese market...?? It has a closed rims like the 1st generation V50 models but the size of the rim is bigger... on the tires its written: Japanese Standard 2.75/3.00-10 ... One of the closed rims gor rusty and broke.. so i have ordered a closed rim from the SIP Scooter Shop www.sip-scootershop.com/pages/details.php?ID=10382&SID=4369a8ff53807ea457f650f099d038d2but the rim appeard to be to small for my 2.75/3.00-10 tires What is the right size of my closed rims and where can i get a spare one, SIP seems to have only only 2.75 - 9 model.... ? any ideas? thanks in advance, vintagefreak

Hello and welcome. The rim size is topic I'm not hugely up on but from what I can tell it depends on the year and the exact model.Your scooter may or may not have had 9 inch rims fitted as standard but if it did it's not beyond the realms of reason that 10 inch items were fitted at a later date. This would leave you with option of buying a 9 inch tyre or a 10 inch rim.I just found this at SIP.

wow, i couldnt find that one - looks like the right size thanks alot! wonder why my model 50S is not on the list of suited Vespas though? so i should return the 9 inch Rim to SIP and ask for an exchange than. wonder what are the best allround tires for being steady on the road that would go with 50S that i could by at SIP? This would leave you with option of buying a 9 inch tyre or a 10 inch rim.I just found this at SIP.

I'd contact SIP to see what their returns policy is as I've never tried to exchange a part with them. Also I'd not necessarily believe everything they say reguards to models or technical advice, nothing and nobody is fallible.
As for tyres?Well that's a discussion in itself but if it is still a 50 I'd say S83's are fine but if you've tuned it up a little you may want a sportier compound and tread.
