First things first, Hi everyone! Really nice board youve got going here! Excelent! And the boobs... ;D I bought a PK50XL2 earlyer this year, its not my first scooter but its my first vespa, not too mutch of a classic moddel but its got the shape and the gears! Ive put on it a 105 Malossi, 19er carb, changed the gear to a polini alu 2,56 ratio (not to happy about that choice) exahust, HP4 flywheel.... What a piece of crap that HP4, just 2 months and one of the plates on the magnets is loose Used some epoxy glue and did the trick. But whats a good and light flywheel for a ETS? Im going to mount a PK125ETS engine on my PK50XL2 and would like a lighter flywheel. Cheers.

maybe just get a standard flywheel lightened? not as light as HP4, but more reliable and less likely to have a negative impact on the rest of the engine. how are your lights with the HP4? still bright? PS. welcome to the forum

Yeah, i think thats the best solution to lighten it, the original ETS flywheel is quite heavy, so im thinking of swapping it for the pk50xl2 flywheel, just dismount the inner bit where the woodruff key goes and put on the bit from the ETS with some nuts and bolts.... About the lights... when ever i use the indicators, the pilot light, brakes, any electrical thing with the engine over 3000rpm makes the engine misfire. The point is that the magnets on the HP4 are weaker so the coils give less amps and the AC/DC converter doesnt have enough juice, fucking the hole thing up So ill just find a shop that can lighten the flywheel.

New HP4s are crap - DON'T BUY THEM! PKXL2 and ETS have the same taper angle, so no need to swap the inner part. A really good alternative is the Vespatronic / parmakit ignition. 1050 g flywheel, retards by 8deg over revs (e.g. from 23 @ idle to 15 deg @ 7000rpm), but one has to change the inner part to fit it to large tapers.

Vespatronic uses 2 types of flywheel
Type 1 Primi small taper Type 2 PK large taper
I have dealt with HP4 flywheels in the past and they do have issues

how do you fit an ETS engin in an XL2? Changing the headset to?

they have that funny single gear cable in XL2's, dont they?
you'd either have to change the roller on the bar to accept two cables or if that can't be done, just swop over the whole headset, in fact thats what i would do, the xl2 headset is shite ;D

Thanks MiNiKiN for the info, ill be thinking what to use for my winter project , buying a FALC cylinder with all the extras. When i save some cash that is...blody expensive.. The gearing issue should be easy, really just going to use the same XL2 cable for the ETS, because changeing the whole headset is going to be a pain in the arse. Not exactly a master work, but u get the picture

Hmm. wouldn't be easy to get the ratio right. Maybe you will have to shorten the arm in the headset.

Not exactly a master work, but u get the picture the single gear idea is the crapest piece of design. i have spent a lot of time trying to make it work properly. it hasnt got very much feel compared with the cables. i got so sick of it, i changed to ss90 cases withe the two cables. its not hard to change the headset to a earlier two cable pk as well. bodgey way is just to file off the thread the top bit , or you can cut the top off and weld a bit of plain pie on the top. pkxl2 headsets are butt ugly as well. paul

I know what you mean pj, sometimes when i change gear it just slips back if i dont keep the grip steady. I guess next time i go to the mc-scrapyard ill have a look for a head set of a PK 50 XL, that should be the easyest model to swap no?
