Hi Mate, Sorry to hear she's poorly... Just dug out my old et3 barrel and piston, cleaned it up to find it marked SC>-> pointing to the side without a port on it.. Stilll couldn't tell you which way round it goes but sure someone else could help now you know which way the arrow points.. I think it normally point to the exhaust port but could be totally wrong on that?!?!?!?! (someone else???) All the best mate.

Welcome Fred,glad you like the place. Your piston should have an arrow on the crown but it's not important.Fit the piston with the port facing the carb intake side(i.e.-facing downwards).

thanks guys. at least i know the piston is the right way round. now, how about the timing? could that be the cause for loss of power??? ive left the timing as standard v100....i am sooo gutted as i thought that the lil dude would go considerably better with the primmy top end....not slower lol...thanks for the help so far guys....great forum...so many like minded smallframe nuts hahaha....down here they all like p2's etc.....(FAT ARSES") lol...ive recently aquired another smallframe cutdown too... so ...timing? ?

engine probs etc aren't my speciality, so I'll let the others sort that for you.
Smallie cut down (jealous) am looking for a cheap bike in poor bodywork condition (ie dented etc) to cut down, there seem to be loads already cut down out there but I wanna do it myself.
Everyone thinks there rust buckets are worth a small fortune though. I mean, it's not like they have ever won 1st place at a vintage bike show is it? ;D ;D

90 = 19 BTDC
Primmy = 24 BTDC

Are you still running on points? renew the points and the capacitor first. I guess you run the 19mil carb on a 19mil manifold?
You stored for so long - is the fuel flow too low, possibly due to old fuel / debris blocking something in the fuel supply (carb and/or fuel tap, sieve)

still on points... yes 19mm carb and manifold. flushed the fuel system...will adjust the timing and fit new points and condenser..
