I've just taken out my newly restored PK50XL for the third time just to check that I wasn't dreaming when it would only do 65 kph.
I had the engine rebuild at a scooter shop by me. They apparently used a Molossi 112 kit(i think). I added a Polini exhaust.
I have modded it with lights and mirrors but they must be acting as an air brake coz I was expecting to be able to do 80 kph(50 mph) which I would have been happy with in all honesty.
What can I do that will not cost the earth to get it to achieve my target speed.
I'm not that hot on scooter technicals so if you can lay it out in Lay-mans terms that would be great.
Someone said I could change the gearing to get more speed. True or False?

Gotta be honest,if it's covered in loads of accesories you'll struggle to get that anyway. Can you tell us what they've done to the motor?
Just a kit or have they changed carb, gearing etc?

No change of carb or gearing that i know of. I bought a new 19/19 carb from SIP before the re-build and that's still on. They put in a new clutch but even i no this wouldn't make a difference.
What other engine will fit this scoot?
Will the gearing make a difference and what kind of money am i looking at?

Okay, there's the main part of your problem.
Don't get me wrong, the 112 is a cracking little kit but it's probably the worst possible choice in your case.Never mind,we'll work with that since you've already got it on.
I'm presuming you've got a matching manifold for the carb, have the transfers been matched up?Also, has the crank been cut to the required spec?
On the gearing front I'd probably look at a 24/72 (3.00 ratio) considering you've got it covered in bathroom fittings. ;DThe gearing isn't stupid money but it does mean a few hours labour to most shops if you're no spanner monkey yourself.
Any sf motor will bolt in but I'd suggest you stick with yours unless you get a superb deal and know/trust the seller.

WOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The carb was just a direct replacement for the one i took off and i doubt they would have matched the transfers, whatever that means.
I will have to phone them in the morning i think. Mind you they could tell me anything and i'd be none the wiser.
What sort of speed could i ecpect from it if all this matching and gearing was put right?
Watch this space.
At the minute this thing goes as fast as I am old (42) and i don't expect to wait till i'm 50 to get a decent speed out of it.

Let us know what your shop said.
Top speed? No idea but the Malossi is a little Banshee,a good one could get 55+.But not with the added weight and wind resistance. ;D
