Ok so the head cowl helps "channel" air from the flywheel fins, to cool the head. How effective is this? And what happens if your head cowl is so shagged that you leave it off? Are you going to get overheat probs?

yes it will get hot and maybee seize unless you sort it or lc it, it definately there 4 a reason and that is cooling, some1 on here mite have 1 or on sbw i will have a look in me shed and loft but dont go without as it will break

seconded. DO NOT run it without it for any length of time. The fins are pointing the wrong way for direct air cooling to work. They are cheap, buy a new one...or a 2nd hand one, or glue/tape up your old one.

I need a head cowl for the SS. The one Ive got is ok(ish), but looks shabby compared to the rest of the bike. The only new ones Ive been able to find havn't got the Piaggio badge or '90' molded into them.
Think this could be the last resto I do. Its a pain in the arse trying to find decent quality std parts.
