dumb question time - which gear cable goes to which side of the gear selector? also i presume i manually put it into neutral before i tighten the cables up? can't remember which gear it was in before i closed the casings

Do them the opposite way around from what I usually do and you're bound to get it right. ;D

I think the downshifting cable goes on the clutchside, but thats just off my bad memory.

The downshift cable is the awkward to adjust one (i.e. the one closer to the flywheel)
The other way round on largeframes...
