I can only tell you what we ran back then. I'm guessin Terry ran similar. I'll ask Ian next time i see him which will be next race season i reckon. The bike in the pic is a group 2, 125 cc standards. So no welding ,rotary valve, and orig type barrel, The et3 barrel was what we used with jap piston.. maybe a tzr. Ignition we used was generally lumenition which was a battery loss system using an opitcal eye as a trigger. Gearbox used a v90 3rd as a 4th to help and it used variable primary drive ratios that were made as per drt do today. Carbs were amals or dellortos. we used the amal. Clutch 4 plate. The motors couldnt have made much power tbh as this clutch held up ok. 16hp is where they start letting go.

I saw him race that spec motor at 3 sisters in 95 and it may have had a lower dyno reading by todays spec but i was amazed how well it went,he was absolutely flying. An old mate of ours from London won the 125 sprint championship back in the late 90`s with an ET3 topend (tzr piston conversion) and sure it got a 15.5 run as Ian Frankland will back that statement up.That was also againts 125 bikes aswel in its class.

Terry`s bike would still be fast by todays standards.

Those old bikes were fast then..and fast compared to most road stuff we have today..But not on the track. Things have moved on as they will. Todays race 90ss's have twice the hp. Dont forget I raced against Terry/Norrie for years..My old iron barrelled motor which was as quick if not quicker than Terry's would not stand a chance in hell today. The technology was what it was in the 80's and early 90's.No disrespect to the tuners back then as they did wonders. Things have moved on massively. My grp3 (et3 barrel)championship winning bike only had 15hp in 2000. No doubt Terry would be loving the Falc kit and would be up the front if he had that at his disposal today. He was a good friend to me and I'm sure he's loving the way it is today wherever he is.

Engine and tyre technology have moved on, but how much? Im sure somewhere, (in the loft), I have a few old programs/time sheets from scooter race meetings at 3 Sisters, Lydden, Cadwell, I use to marshall at in the mid 80's. Don't think any of those circuit layouts have changed. Be interesting to see how times compare.

Three Sisters not much, Lydden not much.. but i'd say this is down to the surface condition today. Also with the shorter circuits you dont have as much distance to drop the time. However the 1973 cadwell lap record which was still there in 1980 was 2.05.9 from a group 6. The problem is that they didnt use the first gear chicane we do which adds at least 10 seconds per lap. Even so the lap record today is 1.57.3. So really a jump of 18 secs or so. You would have been lapping the leader by at least lap 8..Also remember with modern ally barrels we tend to do much more consistant lap times. Yesterday with the air cooled iron barrels power was dropping off all the time..so a group 4/3 lap would have been set early on whilst today most lap records are set on the second from last lap. So.. race times are massively shorter today.
