Just got back from the Nurburgring. First outing since the highside at lydden.
The event was really a time trial event that ends up in a sort of race tbh.
I went with Charlie,Jim,Phil on race bikes, Trevor and Pete on road lammies and Marcus on his road et3. My mate Scott came as race support.
Basically we went to break the lap record of 3.02 which had been hard to crack and of course the mention/challenge we got back in july in scootering
Its a technical circuit. No high speed corners except for a third/fourth gear section. However the times from the first session were Charlie fastest with a 2.45 and myself second with a 2.48. Still waiting for the second session times.
The problem was you didnt get one clear lap. There were bikes everywhere and you close on them pretty quick. All of us gave them room and because of this I didnt nail the bike through any corner really. It was just too mad and too dangerous if you hit another machine. Not knowing the racers or there ability didnt help. We were worried about accidents. You simply couldnt ride like we do, racing here. It would have been just too reckless.
Another weird thing for me is that I just couldnt learn the track. I think I need to go back now and do it again. You'd arrive at a corner not having a clue where it went tbh. Charlie doesnt seem to suffer much from that but did suffer from the traffic like me.
However the fastest German Lutz on his group 6 lambretta did a 2.56 and he was the only one below 3mins I believe.
There were the quick smallies there too.A 29hp esc bike.. One 26hp zirri esc bike. Loads of polini motored bikes.
So it was a great weekend. But no sleep whatsoever saturday night as people were messing about all night.
The german racers were pretty cool and made us welcome indeed. I hope a few of them come to the uk as promised to see what racing is like here and how much harder we push in a race environment.
Marcus did pretty well. First time on a track and scrubbing those tyres up like a racer! Well done mate.
