A little help from the lads on GSF.

I recently found this barrel in amongst a load of spares I bought from my friend.I can't remember seeing one like it before.
Does anyone know the reason for them and/or which model it's from?
Thanks.

Hey,
I think it is a Polini 50 ccm Smallframe-Cylinder. The deeper areas in the bottom of the Cylinder are typical for this type.

i've seen this one before. can't remember what it was though. my guess would be: it's an original cylinder of a somewhat older (read: pre bigbore-kit) scooter. i reckon the idea was to stop people from overboring their steed's engine (which apparently was done quite regularly at a time). increasing engine capacity invariably converted their shopping trolleys into white-knuckle-warp-factor-monsters whose acceleration was so evil that, combined with a topspeed in excess of 35 mph, there was no way of surviving this unheard of performance for any length of time. once polini, malossi and the like started supplying kits people decided to pop their eyes out of their sockets with one of the readily available performance cylinders, hence the responsibility was taken off piaggio's back and they went back to the simple and straightforward desing. then again this may all just be hogwash. still, sounds good, doesn't it?

second guess: if a polini it is, they may have added the silly indentions in the spiggot to stop people from overboring the shite. if people would have gone big bore polini would not have been able to sell the bigger bore versions of their cylinders themselves. still a certain hogwash possibility though.

I've just looked at the Polini 50 over on SIP and I can confirm that this is a standard barrel, the transfers are smaller and differantly shaped, there's no boost port in the bottom and also no scavenger ports in the barrel itself.
Thanks for your help anyway gents.
