I have been pretty reluctant to actually start a thread on here because my project is just taking so long, but I finally feel as if the end is in sight so i thought id share with you all where i am.
I bought the scoot last summer, it looked like this:-
It does look okay in this picture, a lot better than it actually was...
The legshield was bent on the left hand side, and there was more dints than a baghdad taxi.
The legshield was also pretty wavy, dont no if that makes sense, but its the only way i can think of describing it.
The teal parts where hand painted.
The underside hand several large rust patches and some pretty shoddy spot weld repairs.
None of the cables where connected and the electrics didnt start.
It took about a month to get the electrics fixed and not quite as long for me to figure out the cables, and get them properly adjusted. After i sorted it out, i was reluctant to take it apart to sort the cosmetics out, because i didnt think id ever get it finished or be able to get it back together. So it took me a few months of doing nothing with the scoot before i thought screw it and got it dismantled.
Okay, so id never really done anything like this before, and i didnt really have a clue what to do. Willspeed told me that the easiest (and cheapest) way for me to sort out the dints and holes that i didnt want would be to use filler. So i got some and went nuts... The front of the scoot is now pretty much made of filler but i figured this is my first attempt and i dont no any better so it should be okay lol. The fillering stuff took me months, i didnt have much free time because of college and exams and when i did have free time i didnt want to be freezing my arse of in the garage.
I didnt get any pictures from the fillering stage because im lazy and was always too dirty to pick up a camera.
Last week i got well and trully pissed off with having a large lump of metal and filler that barely resembled a Vespa in the garage, so i set my self a dead line. Ive given my self until the end of July, providing i can get the money to buy stuff, to finish the painting and the reassembly.
So over the last few days ive been working like a mad man, and got a lot done...
I finished the fillering as best i could, its not perfect but i never thought it would be.
Got myself to beedspeed and bought as much paint as i could get in a single colour, i checked places like halfords but it all seemed too expensive for me. At beedspeed i got 12 cans (150ml) of colour, 8 cans of primer and 5 cans of lacquer, which only cost me £40
Incidentally i had previously looked at getting the bike sorted by a professional sprayer, but he quoted me £600 for a single colour and he wanted me to strip it. I have also asked other people but they never got back to me or took to long. So i thought id rattle can it.
Right then, heres the primered frame:-
(I did spray the other yellow parts but i cant find the pictures now)
On this picture you can still see the seam at the back and i really wanted to get rid of it, so i sanded back down, fillered sanded and resprayed it...
I'm a lot happy with it now.
Got rid of that seem aswell.
Front of the legshield.
Right then, the colour im using is called Piaggio 216 blue, which is like a metallic greeny blue colour. I got the first couple of layers on last night and ive just done the final layer. These pictures are from last night:-
So thats where i am at the minute, ive not really done much prep work to the other parts of the scoot. The side panels have both been prepped and primed but nothing else has been touched. I also cant think of what colour to do the other parts because ive almost ran out of the piaggio cans and i cant find anywhere to get any more. I recon that white or black would look pretty good, but im quite shit with colours. Let me no what you think please, id really appreciate it ;D
