Hi all. Been looking for a primmy project now for a while, not many around. Cheapest solid scoot in resto condiction I've come across is about £900. That's everything included, no thru rust, engine turns but won't start, few cables missing. Would o'course need whole strip and breath of life. Would prefer something which won't require to hunt for too many parts / imports. So what would £400-600 get me project wise? Something other than a primmy? Would love to end up with something in the 125 range, will use the scoot to go to work in for summer (yeah, next summer!), which is 10 miles away. Would prefer to keep the body in tact, no cutting down. Anybody with any tips / hints... Thanks in advance! Jacques

you have come to the right forum,£400 £500 £600 i suppose you could get a 50,90,100,prim,et3,in ok condition(not rotten) but any of these scoots can be tuned to what ever you want, and as fast as 50/60 to 75/80. maybe someone on here has a smallframe forsale or may know of one. or someone has a engine and another a frame going, theres the odd scooter racer on here might know someone not using one and has gone on to lambrettas or autos. have you tried armandos or dealers who import indian lambrettas,i dont know what they would be like, but if there like the lambretta it would be a major resto project, but im sure thes plenty of small frames in the uk,email a few scooter clubs they might know someone selling one or point you in the right direction. mick

Cheers Mick, Am just starting on the scooter front so much appreciated. Think I'll start placing some wanted adds. Should have enough cash next month to pick up a project... Will be aiming for a primmy at best! Jacques

id look for a 50 as you can get tuning kits, cranks, exhaust, upgear kits and so on,to as fast or faster than a prim, and it would be taxed moted as a 50cc

watch what you buy though.i bought a vespa 100 project and have spent a fortune getting all the parts for it. hence 125 engine with dr kit on' new floor pan. 12 volt loom and new switch. cable set new primmy exhaust.28mlcarb(which ive been told is way to big for mine lol so need a smaller one).and a few other bits n bobs. oh yeah put pk forks in it as well so ideal for disc conversion. and its stood me in about 7 to 800 so far with getting the scoot and buying the bits.and ive not even started doing it yet . way out of my league lol

Good info, thanks! Don't mind spending up to £1500 on the whole thing to get it to completion. Thing is I want to spend that money over about a year, not all in one go. So spending up to £600 for a starter is OK for me. Might spend a bit more for a spray job, though think I might do that myself. Have got a mate who will blast and prime. In the end, speed is not a huge concern for me (as long as I can get to 50mph!), originality is though. I'd rather keep the scoot in original style, as far as possible. Terry: Much appreciated list, very useful! Yeah, I'd prefer to buy a complete scoot in need of resto. If I do buy a project I'd prefer all the parts to be present, where humanly possible. Not always going to be the case I understand! Jacques

Terry, will look at whether I can nab a primmy first, then if all else fails and you've still got the scoot I might give you a ring. Ta!

Yep, the search ends here for now.
My Mrs calmly informed me yesterday she wants the 100 when I'm done restoring it...She said I can have a primmy then...but only after I've done her scoot! Ofcourse she'll let me use the 100 every now and again....Talk about expectations. ;D ;D

I did things a bit different and bought a very rough 50 spesh with a pk 125 motor for £250. Sounds a lot for a pile of junk but as I intended new everything I looked at it as a pk125 casing with gears, a frame and rims and a sporty seat for £250 .I have picked up a prim headset off the forum,my new bits, crank cylinder kit forks and px disc bits ,exhaust and Biturbo shocks are all getting me the scoot I want but it is a money pit. I wouldnt do this again. My advice would now be buy the best you can find in the first place and improve it bit by bit as you ride it.Good luck
