just bought a new helmet, which I personally think looks great: and at the moment, the goggles are some fairly cool pilots (like ray ban aviator) among you who ride your scooters daily, and have seen a lot more than me; is this a no no? should I be more protected? but wouldn't it look goofy to ride around on an oldtimer like a vespa with a fullface helmet and visor? opinions and pictures please pictures of yourself riding your scooter are especially welcome

I never wear an open face. I've seen the nice effects of chin sliding at 30 mph. No jaw left. It werent pretty.

yeah i think the style of the openface is great, just a shame about the protection, watched a great documentary last night about graham hill and jackie stewart and they were all wearing open faces. Bloody Mental....!!!!! try here for different styles www.openfacehelmets.co.uk/

I've got a davida open lid but it rarely gets worn, only if i'm running to the end of the road to check the carb or cables, i just don't feel safe going over 30mph with my beautiful face exposed So i got one of these with a mirrored visor, well bad-ass!

Hmmmmm went for a little ride on the big roads out of town today. First time I've been able to select 4th gear properly (new engine) and whilst trying to see how fast I could go flat out all i could think of was this thread and tony's chin comment!!
Full face helmet is next on my shopping list I think - open face is fine for pootling about town but I didnt feel comfortable at all at speed (what speed I dont know as my speedo isnt connected - but no-one overtook me)

it's comforting to know you take good care of yourselves I'll have to get a full-face for the longer trips.

I wear an open face... I can see the attraction of a full face but I feel really claustrophobic in one. I wear some trendy safety specs with mine though... A bit like these

I use my Davida open face (visor less ) all the time, mostly pootling around in London ..... and now trying not to think of 30mph chin slides....... But what constantly amazes me is the number of people who don't wear any eye protection, day or night. It's my pet bug bear! I have a clear pair of workshop glasses for night time that have saved me from lots of bugs, dust and rain......i remember reading somewhere that it is illegal to wear sunnies at night.... Full face arai is kept for winter or longer rides.

Seeing business men in london riding twitchy superbikes with cotton trousers and no gloves makes me flinch every time, two wheels just isn't as safe as a car so give yourself the best chance when (cause you will) stack it regardless if it's your fault or a careless car. Tony & Jim - deffo a bit battlestar Cylon, with a hint of daft punks Electroma ;D
