Hi, sorry if this has been asked before: I have a PK50 XL2 electro start, 1990 (no kickstart). Does anyone know if it's a go-er to simply swap the existing engine out and put a PK50 XL (or any other 50 motor like a V50/90) in instead ? Can't stand the non-kicker engine, and need an option. Have been told already that it's not poss to install a kicker on the existing engine. With a different engine in, would further modifications be needed ? Thanks in advance.

I think it's a straight forward swap, wiring might need a bit of fiddling

the xl2 is a single gear cable set up ,so a non xl2 engine swap will need a alteration at headset to take another gear cable an swapping gear cable pulley to a earlier 2 cable type .H

Thanks a lot for the replies. Yes the single gear cable situ I was aware of - there is a readily available conversion kit available to change it over to the 2 cable pulley system, so it seems like a go-er, will give it a try.

as far as i know the contraption you speak is for the cases to take 2 gear cables, is there one for the headset of the cases that does it the other way round if not you can use a headset that uses 2 cables, v range, pk too until xl2, you will have to change the fork stem tho as the forks in the xl2 are not clamp on but threaded, like a t5 which you may be able to use the base of to get an idea of whats needed for 2 gear cables into the xl2 headset or find some xl2 cases with a kickstart, probably cheaper as no fucker wants the xl2 cases anyway cos of the teleflex gear cable
