Hi all I'm in the process of rebuilding a vma1 the original engine cases are awaing vapour blasting . I was looking in to getting cases artificially aged or hardend . does anyone know the alloy spec of the 60s engines ie 356 ?? Be useful to know all so for any tig repairs I may have to do cheers👍

If you are getting them vapour blasted, why would you want to artificially age them once they are spankingly clean?
If ya want them clean and aged then just wash them in old fuel then shove them through a dishwasher on a hot wash when ur other half aint there!
Not sure what people use to weld up cases but if they are of the same material as the headset then i have just tig welded holes in one of my headsets with 4043 aluminium filler rods....

I’ve had a couple of cases welded and none of the welders used any special alloy rods just standard aluminium rods

older cases weld better than new so ive been told especially behind the drive side transfers, something to do with when being poured into the cast at that point there are impurities that settle there, im sure ive read somewhere that some rods are better than others, but im not a welder so know fuck all about that
