Remembering where everything goes, take loads of pictures as you take it apart, have lots of sealable bags and boxes for it all to go in, and label them. Don't throw anything away until you have finished, even if broken, you then have it as a reference for the new part, so you know it's correct. There is probably more to add, but can't think at the moment

Look on the web for the Piaggio parts manual (Parts Catalogue Vespa 50, 90, 125 Primavera ET3 1978, CAT-V50-1978.pdf) Download it and get it blown up to A3. It has exploded diagrams to show what goes where (like on the SIP site)and it'll give you part numbers for every bit you need. Also there is a youtube site Vespa e Motori that shows all the smallframe jobs. It's in Italian but you'll learn a lot about the job just by watching. There is also a book restoring vespa smallframes that's excellent but it's about £25.
Final piece of advice, that's written on the wall in front of my workbench "do it right the first f%%%ing time"
Good luck!

just finishing my second so no expert. But I think I spent most of my time emptying various tins and boxes looking for nuts, bolts, and pretty much every single part. So label everything or just chuck it all in to one big box as you will at least know where it all is. And being pretty crap mechanically i kept it fairly standard which seemed to work really well.
