Put my engine casings together a couple of weeks ago. The crank is moving freely by hand EXCEPT at the bottom of its stroke it becomes distinctly stiff. So I can turn it easily by hand but very noticeable stiffens at bottom of stroke. Is this something to worry about or do I need to split the casings again to check?
I have fitted an ETS crank and correct bearings and spacers. Everything seemed to go together so really hoping I dont have to reopen the engine

I use a dead blow hammer after the cases are together. VERY VERY lightly on the crank ends and good solid biffs on case around where the bearings seat.

a new vespa crank is made to really good tolerances its worth checking to see if the crank is catching on the inlet port as that's a common thing especially if you have ported the inlet and also if you have cut the crank

thanks I will check that out although i have not cut the crank. Will let you know as looks like I will have to split the casings. A few taps with the rubber hammer did help and I can turn the crank by hand when turning the taper without feeling any resistance. I am sure I can feel something ever so slight when turning it from the primary drive

cheers chaps. Split the casings again, couldn't see anything, cleaned up very gently around inlet with some emery and cleaned crank with some emery paper, couple of little rust spots and that. all back together and spinning nice and freely. I wonder was bearing not quite seated as when I spun the crank in non flywheel side when the casings were split could feel something catching but if i seated it tight in casings with primary cog and nut on it was fine.
Whats the trick with putting casings together? flywheel bearing so tight on the crank it was easier to put it on the crank, then heat the casings when closing them. When i put flywheel bearing in the casings it was too hard to close the casings. As always thanks for the advice.

There are tools to pull the cases together, and push them apart. SIP sells them and I am sure others do as well.

thanks JB, it went back together in the end with a bit of very gentle persuasion.
next question is which wiring loom to get for a v90 with electronic ignition?

Which ignition are you using. I have a flytech with a SIP conversion loom and can pm you photos of junction box, bar switch and headlight showing placement of wires.
