So with the extra low number of these so see full smallies produced and with most of those going to the other Brit colonies in the southern hemisphere and off course the ludicrous price (especially with the Rand exchange) I may have to settle for a 90ss replica.
I would like to know from you tech bunch is there a preferred scooter to use for the replica. I assumed to have a 90 smallie to start is good for the engine capacity but I do notice that the primavera wheels are better but here in SA all primavera have a glove box on the right hand panel.
Lastly before I begin this build the replica kit from Saigon centre/scooter centre is it decent enough for this type of job I would like to build.
Thanks Habibi

To do a proper job you need a square badge big door frame 19666 to 1969 as that year frame is shorter for the tank and spare wheel to look right with out having a big gap

Hey Gab thanks for the reply if I am not mistaken this is a 1969 90cc. But has the old style hubs as for the badge I think it is the square style but there is a ton of enamel paint (painter with paint brush) so cant see the lines. . I can confirm the door over the engine is the big type. It has a round Speedo and is only 3 speed is it still a worth while base bike for the replica
Is it still

Thank you for the reply VIN I will check with the scooters seller to see if the gap as as shown on this photo.
By looking I would assume it is shorter than my primavera but I would need to measure to make certain.
Thanks for the advice guys

I thought the chassis was stretched in '68 so that you need a '66 or '67 chassis.

Hi Gav So I asked the guy selling the two small frames to place the wheel in arch as shown in the SS90 build thread shown in a previous post and get some photos for me the same, below is what I got. The blue bike is a 50s the white bike is a 90 was hoping to use the 90 to be a 90ss replica BUT I assume I could just as well do a 50ss replica with the 50s as this wheel seems to fit much better like the SS should. are my observations correct on the below photos Blue is the better bike to use for this

I did a quick search on this link the other evening and just saw the spare wheel test which got me to ask for more photos of the scooters offered to me. but last night spent some time and read through the link the OP "Allsorts" says a few times he is by no means a welder BUT from the things he did and tried on this thread he has some very amazing skill sets. the way he shortened the channel was in mu opinion absolutely spectacular. from what I could tell it was a very long project and thread but looks very very good. I do want to know has it finished yet I was hoping to see photos of the final scooter

Where are you going to source parts for a project like this? I considered doing an ss90 insipered build... but all the ss bits seem so expensive. I assume some parts would be fine for an "inspired by" build but not a full on replica.

IF your going replica it don't matter where the parts come from as long as it looks correct and then you don't try to past off as a real one - replica or fake... that is the question.
Saigon scooter centre do a very good selection of replica (fake) body parts, minor fettling required...

I assume some parts would be fine for an "inspired by" build but not a full on replica. It will be a replica, I have no intention on dong any changes to engine or chassis numbers this will be a scooter for myself, the parts I have seen from Siagon scooter center is where I was thinking, I believe they do a complete floorboard, handle bars, banana Exhaust, centre stand, dummy tank spare wheel discs and badges. I am however thinking because I am using a 50s as the base scooter it may make more sense to make it a 50SS replica and not a 90SS... I do not intend using any NOS or used original parts as you have pointed out they are rather expensive, and for a replica repop should surfice.

If anyone knows of a very good quality re-pop of the SS headset, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I have bought them from SIP, ScootRS, and Saigon SC and the quality has varied from poor to dreadful. The ScootRS one cracked as I was tightening the headset bolt, not confidence inspiring. The others are only vaguely like an original one. The curves are wrong and the hardware absolute crap. Given all the interest in the 50/90SS, and the fact that the originals were often crashed and damaged, you think someone would make a decent one.

That's not very good to hear... hope the Saigon ones are okay quality, I hope that because here in South Africa we have never seen one in the flesh guys may over look the incorrect curves, until I can get my hands on a better quality / designed unit

I haven't looked recently but I assume Mauro Pascoli doesn't make one? All his other repro stuff is spot on, but expensive- but still cheaper than second hand original...if you can find it Much better quality than Vietnam ....

Okay got both 90 and the 50 bought, also got a 100 engine for free in the deal. plan is as follows. Use the 50 frame for the replica / fake (what ever you want to call it) use the 100 engine keep the 50s engine on the shelf as a standby engine incase my engine dies for what ever reason. but need some advice on the engine and a few other things before I begin.
1. V9B1M engine does it have the Primavera style drive shaft to match the Primavera / 90ss hubs or is it the 4 bolt type or do they vary depending on year and market sold in.
2. if the engine is the 4 bolt style hubs is it an easy change the drive shaft to newer or is it more difficult than just that?
3. will a Primavera fork fit into the 50s with out any mods so I can again use the Primavera / 90ss hubs.
I am trying to get as much the stuff together and ready for the job before I send the bike and engine in for the work I can not do.

Yea brake back plate stays - and just get rid of rear central hub holder and replace with Prim hub as easy as that. The splines in the prim hub will match the splines on the layshaft. Having said all that, the very late (Jap market 100's had the PK style layshaft) so larger nut - Oh shite now you got me all confused - I've got a SS and a Jap 100 i'll have a look over the weekend see whats what.... Bear with
All small frame (V) forks are interchangeable.
Not seen a repro SS headset up close to see quality - I know SIP buys theirs from Saigon to then sell on - at the moment I think the only people making them is Saigon so not much choice. Pascoli has a web site he might have a SS headset i'm not sure - he does a lot of the other bits.
