I'm guessing that if you can get the Polini around the same price as a DR then it'll have the old style cylinder head. You don't want that, they're notoriously shite. Spend a bit more on the one with the much more desireable new styled ducting.

Mine have leaked, but the cylinder top was machined (no original sealing surface)and the compression was quite high (squish 0.9-1.1mm). I think that it won't be that bad if you use it with unworked cylinder. Mind, that most of the people complaining about the head have used it with tuned kit, or didn't use it at all and just spread the rumours

I'd have to question the sanity of anyone using the old 'head over the new one to save £30 or £40 quid initially especially with the harder life it's going to get on an Ape. It will leak and it will cost you money and hassle in the future.

Reading all the your posts above it seems like you have brought all the expensive things cylinders, clutch and exhaust plus some laser cut items. Then you ask if you should buy all that or just a DR or Polini and the newfren clutch. Me confused.com lol.

I understand it now. A crazy ape does sound good though. I have built up a 130 polini for my ape. You will need to jack up the cylinder to fully open the transfers. I top and tailed mine and used a 5mm base space. Same as what Worb5 does. I also used the GS piston and rings for security after recommendations from a few on here.

This is a really good price and you can buy the new style 'head separately and still save money over the kit with the newer 'head alone.
