A little bit rusty but solid, I told my mate to leave the fibreglass body to it at home so its out of the way and he can get it sprayed. he brought it Sunday and so far I've stripped the frame of tank, loom (what was left of it), fuel pipes, took the motor out this afternoon after work-piss easy its only 4 bolts! Plan is to grind the paint off with my flap disc on the grinder and etch prime then prime and re black maybe hammerite smooth? Junk the front end and source good forks wheel and bars hopefully twin disc, luckily I have the origional build sheet for it and it says any forks will fit Jap wise upto 500cc, so I'll go hunting for these over the next few weeks, need to get it done quickly though now to carry on with my sprinter :-)

Alright Oz, engine just to replace the rusty pushrod tubes and fit an alternator kit, new exhaust and electronic ignition, my mate says its been bored or had 1500 pots put on?? oh and maybe one of those chrome kits they do for the covers etc? its upto what my mate fancies there though. I know fuck all about these so any pointers suggestions appreciated ;-) They look as simple as my A series motor though in my mad midget.....

While I wait for a few things to turn up for the sprinter etc, I had a window open today to strip the trike and it now looks like this. Jesus everything was seized and needed to be heated up and doses of wd40 etc to get everything undone Ready for a good rub down and paint Sorry re pic quality?

Iain, get some graphite penetrating oil. It's far better for unsiezing bolts and the like. WD40 certainly has it's uses but there's better stuff available for that. Diesel is the best if you can drop the parts in a bucket.

As quite often happens.
I reckonise that exhaust as I use to get Volks World or whatever it was called as a teenager in the mid 80's. They tended to be fitted to Baja Bugs and if memory serves it was called a RX and had a twin stinger tailpipe although I've also seen the single stinger version.

Also by the looks of things I'd guess the forks and front wheel origionally came of an early 80's Yamaha, most likely a XS 250 or 400.

Thanks for that, I was talking to my mate that owns it earlier and I suggested just getting new/ good second hand fork legs as I can restore the yolks etc and he wants an alloy wheel for it too, bettrer disc as its solid, should be able to get it from a couple breakers near me ;-)

Thought I'd put some more updated pics of work carried out but havent, but its painted now, black :-) Axle is nearly ready and i've just ordered a shit load of new stuff for it, gearbox mounts and boots etc so the rear end is nearly there. The bike breakers has come up with a twin disc fork setup with wheel and tyre and calipers so hopefully I'll look at those Saturday and measure a few things before parting with my mates cash lol. I'll post some pics soon :-)

Its coming together now thank god lol! I managed to barter at the bike breakers and will be able to pick the complete front end up next week, wheel will need painting but the front should look fantastic when finished, will need to get the stem altered to fit frame/chassis. Axle just back in, still supported by the trolley jack as I am waiting for the mounting bracket I painted to dry before fitting the new mounts etc. :-) then the brakes to do, new master cylinder ordered and got new ends and copper pipe. Not my cup of tea but then again it should look good when its done. Picked up the funky exhaust for £65, bargain :-) Got to make the mudguard brackets more sturdy and weld a few cracks and paint then fit all together and paint shafts and fit new boots etc.

Will see if I can get ahold of old Kenny "Dylan", I know he was a big fan of the 1776 with lifter cams and double downdraft Dell'Orto's. Admittedly that was mainly for Buses with substancially more weight and less aerodynamics but I know he's had his hand in a few trikes over the years. Think the last one he did was a standard 1302 with just a dress-up kit and a better looking exhaust.
I'll see if I can get in touch again.
