Hi All, got a 1964 small door V90 engine I'm working on... It's all original with the internal coil on the stator and points. can anyone advise what the standard points gap should be? Cheers

mine will not rev out when gap is betwen 0.3 to 0.5..it farts and coughs and ocassionally backfires..and no its not due to a bad condensor I now set it with eye to the smallest gap I can get..prob about 0.1mm and it will start and run sweet. Try it at 0.3 to 0.5 first..then go closer
Ps two little washers under the points screw will give it some slip so you dont alter the gap as you tighten it down shaneo

yes shaneo, retard the stator a couple of degrees and double the gap, if it will only ever run with a tiny points gap no matter where you set the stator then you have other problems, dont rule out the condensor by any means ive had brand new ones which dont work and upon stripping them apart all is apparent with the end of the fillament supposed to be earthed to the case (is basicaly just an insulated strip of foil coiled up with one end earthed and the other going to the points/coil) ive found arcing where its been attached badly by shit manufacture in some backstreet gook factory turning out hundreds of shite ones, so then you have not only the points gap but the wank continuity of the condensor to contend with, ive found the originl 30 year old one better than new remade ones, i always used to fit ones from old minis or fords and then moved on to capacitors from maplins fitted next to the ht coil doing away with it altogether on the stator it could also mean a poor ht/lt coil, too big plug gap or bad points, even points bounce at higher rpm
