Looking good jimmy. I notice the hole to lubricate the flywheel side bearing appears to be blanked but you can see it from the other side in an image from an earlier post. Is it worth drilling this through? Well spotted I wondered for a while but turns out that's an ETS casing thing... in the needle bearing casings, they moved the oil hole to where the crank web sits, and just blanked off that hole rather than changing the casting. So there's still oil being pushed to the bearing through a little hole.

Depends what bearing and what your crank case looks like inside the engine. If you casings take the ball bearing type flyside bearing then you need the oil hole. If you have casings that take the needle/roller type bearing then you don't need the oil hole as it is lubricated from a cutout inside the crank case

Minor update.... moved the frame from my flat in London to my Mum's near Cambridge, which means I have some space to work!! Spent a few hours drilling holes in reinforced concrete trying to find a hole I could make deep enough to secure the winch hooks - I hung from them for a few minutes to check they were strong enough!!

Hello Jimmy Hope this is going OK. Just wondered what the original colour was? Did you ever fnd out? Thanks! It was this blue (seen behind the light fitting) - but if you mean the colour code etc then no, can't find a reference to Vespa 90 Douglas 1970 colours anywhere....

Anything else happening with this build, looking at doing something similar so wandering how everything is shaping up... Not at the moment... life and finances getting in the way right now I'm working on the engine but need to stick a load of cash I don't have into a big parts order! Still hoping to finish it this year, but time's running out somewhat.

Yeah, trying to save some pennies to buy my kit and all the other bits and pieces I think I'll need. Buying the kit is one thing - I need about £70 of work done to the ports etc to get the timings right!

how you getting on with the build jimmy? you nearly done yet ? Getting there. Got a fair bit done with the frame over Christmas, loom, floor runners and so on, also got the whole front end blasted and painted. Will upload some photos soon, just working out a few things first. So a bit more to do on the frame, then Mathias is going to do a bit of work on the barrel/piston for me, then I can crack on with the engine. Was hoping to be done by end 2013, now looking at March/April I think...! Thanks for asking - knowing people are interested makes it all the more worthwhile for me EDIT: And just looked at when I made the first post... April 2012!! Slow project indeed...

Ahhh glad he got it worked out, he was really worried as hadn't found anywhere and had to be out in a couple of weeks. I know he was mates with the Retrospective guys, though, so sounds like all's well that ends well I'm hoping I can hold him to his original offer of giving everything a quick buff/touch up when finished, though not sure he expected me to take this long to do it!
