My p200 has just started smoking like a right bastard. Stripped the engine and found the clutch oil seal had been spinning round instead of staying put, the wee shite. Will loctite and a new seal do the business. I'm hoping the case will be ok. Not the start to the scootering year I was looking for.

Surely the seal won't have damaged the case... will it? Has it deposited loads of rubber in there? I suppose you'll need to put loctite on the case and fresh oil on the crankshaft, and try not to mix the two...

Stripped the engine and found the clutch oil seal had been spinning round instead of staying put Yes mate it is (fairly common : , morso on T5`s in my experience...... all the ones ive seen have used a NON GENIUNE drive side seal..... the metal part of the seal often spins little scores into the seal housing... is there any signs of damage to the case where the new seal will fit/seat... have you cleaned the engine up and tried to a new seal, ifso was it a nice snugg fit, if it isnt i personally wouldnt bother even rebuilding those cases..... i also wouldnt even entertain a non Piaggio seal....... nearly all the pattern seals ive come across are all coated in rubber.. the Part number for a Genuine seal is "242550", All metal but with a rubber inner part that seals around the clutch side web of the crank a tell tale sign is the engine/gearbox oil smelling of petrol before it starts throwing excess smoke out of the exhaust....... hope you get away with a cheap rebuild mate...

Cheers guys. The housing looks ok no scores or anything but the old seal just falls onto place with no pressure applied. You can see where the seal has rubbed on the actual bearing retaining circlip! I've insisted on a new genuine seal from Beedies and phoned a few shops for advice. They say use a seal sealant to fix it in place. Hopefully the new seal will fit tighter and I'll use loctite to keep it in place. I know what you mean about the casing being scrap and that is my worst fear but I can't afford a new set of cases, or even second hand!! So I'll have to wait on the parts to arrive. If it turns out to be totally fucked at least it will spur me on to get my smally back on the road!!

Looks like I got away with it. New seal was tight to fit and is stuck in with some loctite for good measure. We'll see what happens when I fire her up!!
