whats the best way to remove the clutch basket? I am assuming I have to take out the big gear cluster and then remove the kick start cog and where do I apply heat to get them out??

To get out the basket you need to get the kickstart cog off, no need to heat anything, you will see a circlip under the kickstart cog, just remove it and tap the basket out). Take a look here www.scooterhelp.com/tips/engine/gearbox.sf.vespa.html But you dont need to remove the main axle.

Cheers for that mate, never thought of looking there What are folk running in the way of primaries on there tuned motor's?? I thought I had a polini upgear on mine but lookin at it I don't think it is... Having a look around there are loads of different ratios but what do you guys think would be best for the M1 with PM40 pipe?? Would I be right in thinking that standard Primmy gearing 24/61 can be bought as an upgear kit for the other models anyway?? would standard primmy gearing be ok? not too fussed about the jump in 4th as the polini used to be able to pull it, but bit concerned about all this talk of it not being able to pull a standard 4th!!! how can that be, if 11/12HP can pull it why wouldn't 16hp be able to??? I know its all to do with where the power is in the rev range but with the curve on a PM40 I should be ok yeah?
