Use old style clutch and get it banded if you can. Tell him to stayaway from cosa clutches mine just ate them.

Hey Russ On my 225 lardy ive always used a genuine clutch set up, basket, internals ect and either use again genuine 3 plate or 4 plate using stronger springs, never had any problems 26hp and very relaible, people have argued that the cosa type work well well but ive spoken to folk and the rivets tend to shear with any high hp ..... good luck Russ

Hiya Russ, I have a similar set up on my lardie and I use a Cosa clutch, copes fine. October's Scootering has an article on lardy clutches.

Put a Cosa clutch in a mates pinasco 180, GF pipe, standard 24 dellorto, 13.8bhp- newfren carbon green plates, uprated springs 1.2mm steels banded and rivets welded. Worked beautifully - light action no drag- bloody things slipping after 1000 miles, and I had to disinfect my workshop & tools ;D So anyone got any better ideas ?

Stick with none cosa type clutch and up rate the springs and use well soaked genuine corks making sure the other parts arent warped and in good condition .....

Wow, I had always thought that the cosa clutch was a better option. I've got a banded older clutch laying around here somewhere, might have to give it some use after all...

I went through a couple standard cosa clutches, just kept coming apart, time after time, then I got the banded version w/ uprated springs, re-enforced retaining ring, and still no love... so I've ordered the S&S evo w/ the cover... I'm hoping this will work out, if not, I'm going back to my old-school banded 7 spring (which has always worked, doesn't slip) BUT it's so touchy, no "easing out the clutch" it's ON of OFF, but like I said, it's a work horse, and I've learned to live with the feel... So I'll wait with high hopes, but no real guaranteed expectations, and see how the S&S does.
I am curious as to why they insist you use the cosa nut instead of the stock castle nut / washer. I'm probably missing something, but it seems to me that it's fundamentally a nut... so what's the difference?
