For sale 50 special Racer 135 Malossi 17.6 BHP
I have to sell the racer unfortunately therefore I am offering it on here to the already converted before I offer it to the BSSO forum and then to the wider world..
Raced at 2 meetings in all, last year at Cadwell and this Easter at Mallory. Some on here have already seen how quick it is in action which is down to Tony O’Brien in the engine department and some expensive suspension in the handling department.
Spec is as Follows;
Frame 1979 50 Special with V5 in my name.
All bracing of bubbles and legshields courtesy of Pete Merchant at Solely Scooters in Rochdale and powder coated along with headset in brilliant white at Midas Touch. There are bumps and bruises but I didn’t bother getting it looking sweet as it is intended to be thrashed not shown. It does look quite brutal in a shopping bike kind of way.
SIP race seat (or Green Hornet style available at extra cost)
PK XL Forks and PX hub powder coated in satin black along with rims, PX disc, goodridge hosing and PX master cylinder mounted on modified 50 special headset. Teflon cables throughout.
RS24 Malossi shockers at both ends (2 races old) – multi adjustable. Rear ride height increased to quicken steering and is partially adjustable. Front lowered 20mm it handles really well and is quick through the turns even though I ride it like a mod. It comes shod with TT92’s again only 2 race meetings old.
Engine;
For techy questions I am sure Tony would be happy to assist but in broad terms the engine has just shy of 18BHP and a dyno Top speed of 95mph. (sheet below)
Cast Malossi 135 with packer, wiseco piston of which there is a spare and a set of extra rings.
XL clutch with 8 springs, 27/69 primaries and I have others (DRT 25 and 26) at extra cost. Taffspeed race modified gearbox, Kegra one off pipe which would look as good on your coffee table as it does on the bike. Vespatronic which was retarded slightly at 12deg BTDC on the dyno run and it was only with a 128 main jet and not the 135 which is what I should have and have got in it now and you can certainly tell the difference I so it is more likely to be higher BHP.
30mm Dellorto Flatslide carb breathing in the open air. It sounds great, goes great and there is more info on Tony’s website on the actual engine build.
Be mindful that this was built to be raced and not ridden on the road. However, I have done so in moment of madness and it is exhilarating to say the least. My local MOT man was prepared to daytime MOT it for me if I gave him a go on it but it has got a full 12v electrical system in any case. Use the gearing options and get it up the strip at the scooter shootout in October or get it on the track for this season (or next). This is race ready and I have a set of leathers (if they fit) for the lucky winner.
The parts alone add up to more than what I am asking at £2600 or I will consider splitting if I can secure agreement on all parts simultaneously.
If you are serious PM me. I will give it a few days on here then it’s …
