A friend of mine is having a go on building a TS1 motor for his SX200. Its the first engine he builds and I have promised to help him with it. Not that I have any experience in lammies but Ill do what I can. He is also a sharp guy so I am confident bout that this will be running when next season starts. Learning as we go along. What I am after here are some general advice on lammie builds, as the lammietuning scene is not that vital in Finland..Is there some of the bits that dont go together, obvious stumbling points..etc anything is appreciated. He has the 2:nd edition of the spanners manual, which is very helpful. Bits are pretty much gathered and will start putting it together during the holidays. SIL casings MBD racetour TS1 MBD head MBD inlet manifold MB Alpha crank 58/110 Jl KRP4 TMX 35 Liedolsheim 7 plate clutch DRT Monza superspeed gearbox 19/47 sprockets AF lightened flywheel BGM 120w stator Mytronic ...christmas certainly came early for my mate , but really nice to get to be involved in the build. thanks for reading and really looking forward for your pointers. Lucky guy! That's a nice Christmas for someone. Sounds like a nice start. Port match it (obviously) & use a strobe light when doing the timing to make sure you're accurate to start. Maybe some nicer reeds than what come with a standard TS1... And uh... Don't break anything. ;D

Yeah, its the Broadhurst tuned kit that comes with the tassinari reedblock. Unfortunately they were out of stock on the V-force so it came with std reed block and boyesen reeds.
Top end assembly shouldnt be a problem, match ports, check timings and squish and bolt it together. Its the bottom-end bit thats new ground for me, but I guess it will be ok once we get at it.

Sticky's book is a definite must for any Lambretta owner. Tell your mate to go and buy it. All the answers for building an engine are in there.
Why didn't he go for a 60mm crank?

The new edition of Stickys manual is sorted. I think he went 58 cause of not having to spindel the casing to fit the larger web , cause thats a operation that a basic machine shop dont do here, and if they do it takes alot of time and is expensive. Not that the budget has been so tight this far.. You do need to do that for a 60 stroke, right?

Depends on what conrod you use. If you have a machining problem drop me line, I have a lathe, a mill, the usual welding crap in my workshop, and there are a number of other scooter related guys with similar equipment in Germany. I know shipping is not cheap, the rest is though. There's bloke in the north of Germany, for instance, and I'm quite sure you'd have your stuff back within a week after shipping. I usually prefer to do things myself, and if I can't do it (CNC stuff for instance) I prefer scooter-people because they at least know what it is they are working on.

Hamburg. Not that far away. If you're in Germany anyway shipping is 6 Euro 90 or so, and it could be returned to the guys in Lübeck. Name of the guy is Kobold (GSF nick). Drop him a line, he does know what he's doing and prices are more than reasonable.

It's a shame about the Tassi reeds... On the upside, though - I've seen many a person with minimal skills slap together a TS1 & have results that made them very happy. It's a durable piece of kit & a fun project for sure. Yeah - 60mm crank does make it that much more fun, though... ;D Everybody likes a little more juice.

I didn't think AF lightened flywheels fitted BGM stators? I could be wrong, used an MB one on mine.

You may have to install a small shim behind the stator on each of the bolts that hold it to the case in order get the spacing for the pickup correct? Or am I thinking of SIL stators...? AF supplied us w/ said shims & instructions on our last few orders.

That's a problem with some of the ignitions, yes. Apparently the pick-up and the magnetic strips or whatever they are called in English that trigger it didn't line up and engines would either not start at all, or if they started, wouldn't rev up. At least some of the didn't.

I got the impression that it varies from case to case.?? If it doesnt fit I guess we can fit the SIL stator with the AF flywheel?

If it doesn't work it's a problem of the strips not lining up with the pickup, I'd say. That would need some fiddling around with spacers. The Indian stuff seems to have the same problem in combination with the AF flywheel.

Bgm states on their facebook page that the AF flywheel can cause problems with the pick up, caused by the rivets that hold the magnet.
But we will fit it and see what happens.

either machine 1-2 mm off the face of magflange where stator sits or do the same on inside the flywheel[page 133 of stickys book] ive also had to lose a bit round edge of flywheel on some that i have fitted as they foul mag sometimes
