Hi, I've just found this site from another forum so apologies if some of you are reading the same query for the second or even third time!
I've just fitted a banana exhaust that I bought NOS from ebay about a year ago. The seller said it was a genuine Piaggio which I took with a pinch of salt. It's really well built and has RGM1714/23S stamped on the side. It doesn't have an exhaust stub like the Sitos and Piaggios and was wondering if it's meant to have a baffle fitted as it's incredibly noisy, more so than the Polini that I have just removed. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

I had one of them and it just has a tiny little gas outlet.
Was VERY quiet until I hit a pot hole in Barnsley and one of the bolts that holds the manifold to the exhaust body snapped & fell out meaning the gasket wasn't properly sealed. Then it was incredibly noisy.
You DO have a gasket where it connects to the cylinder and where the manifold and exhaust join don't you?
Pretty sure they are the same standard exhaust gasket.

Hi. I have fitted gaskets but they are weird aluminum gaskets that SIP sent me as as opposed to the compressed cardboard type. They seem ok though and there are no leaks as the engine cuts out when I cover the exhaust outlet.

The banana exhaust must have a "flute" in its outlet, which basically is an approx. 20cm long tube with holes in it. Does yours have this as well?

It is!
Only about 1cm sticks out of the end?

Hi hank, yes I posted some pictures of the exhaust on the Beedspeed forum, I haven't worked out how to post them on here yet. I think your right - looks like it's meant to have a flute in it. I don't really want to spend 15 quid on one though and then find out that it doesn't fit

I didn't know you could take them out.
Otherwise the one of mine in Hank's garage wouldn't have had one in! ;D

wonder how you fit them in? does it slide onto something inside then weld at the end or do you have to cut the exhaust into two you'd better try and find out first, might be easier/cheaper just getting a new exhaust

looks like you just push it in

You just push it in, it is supported by the two dividers inside the pipe (which make the chambers inside) at the outlet it is held with a little screw.

Cheers guys, looks like I better put a note on the 'wanted' message board for a baffle/flute/silencer/exhaust thing or whatever it's called.
