Hello, 5 years ago my father restored his vespa 50s, fitted pk fork, pk crankcase and a 125cc cylinder with an shbc 20 carb and pk ignition. Now that i'm driving it daily as my commute i want to upgrade the engine to something more powerfull. I was looking at the polini 130 cylinder but i don't want a cast iron cylinder again. So i'm thinking about an aluminum 130cc cylinder from parmakit. The issue is that parmakit has many 130cc cylinders from a "daily" aluminum plug and play to the sp09 130cc which has much larger transfer ports. So i'm asking if anyone know which cylinder is a balance between performance and daily drivability. I know that i'll need to upgrade almost everything if i want to have a reliable daily driven commute. So can i modify the pk crankcase enough for the sp09 cylinder without welding or should i go for a less aggressive cylinder . For carb i was thinking about tmx 27.

Hiya, personally I'd stick with a cast polini, 24 delly and sito pipe, always easy to rescue a cast cylinder should things go south but I understand the appeal of a plated cylinder . As for other recommendations- I haven't experienced any of the plated kits or newer barrels on the market to give you a review. I'm sure someone can offer some more info. All the best Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul, so a cast polini or mallosi will be enough even for some small touring sessions around the city i live? Also a reason i want to go for an aluminum cylinder is that in the summer where temperatures are often south of 30 degrees celsius i feel that (at least for my cast cylinder) is losing performance. I don't know if this is a problem of my cylinder specific or because is simply cast and not aluminum.

Hiya, you will get a bit of 'drop off' performance wise with a cast cylinder compared to a ally/plated cylinder but providing your set-up/jetting/ignition timing is good then you won't have any major issues. For what you require - a polini 130 would be fine. Like I said - hopefully other people can give your other recommendations based on their experiences with other barrel kits. Cheers Paul
