needed a lightened flywheel an lost my lathe privledges due to lockdown , so with time on my hands ,got the jigsaw out , mount fly in stator test-rig , hold pen an turn . flywheel 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
1 lammy fly bearing , 1 vespa fly bearing , 1 crank stump n a lump of iron . balance 002 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
5 minutes of bright lights an funny smells an were good to go .balance 003 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
mount it vertically in a vice n spin , mark point that settles lowest an repeat , after 3-4 spins move bar to horizontal an repeat in case theres a bearing defect thats skewing results .balance 004 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
1st results , def needs balancing an removal of material .balance 005 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
better but still a quarter with no marks ,hidden by bar .flys 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
better again , quarters down to about a 1/8th now , a tad more from the perimeter around the single lightening drilling at 12 oclock i reckon .flys 002 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
now to clean all the marks off an start again , the aim being for it to always stop in a random place evenly distributed around the circumference . the fun of lockdown desperation never ends at my house .evo3 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr .
me using my pillar drill an a end mill bit to open cases to take a full circle crank , i use to throw them at a machinist an pay £30 , guess i'd got lazy , back to old-skool skint kid tricks now in lockdown . reckon i'll not go back to paying , its quicker an cheaper this way , to drop them off an wait a week then pick-up was 2 1 hour drives an fustrating . bit more nerve wracking this way , but more fun .H
