Just a quick one to say hello and introduce myself -
My names Stew, 36yr ex squaddie from South Wales. I’ve Just bought my first scoot as a little project. (PK50 XL FL)
I’ve got a few questions if I may....
.I am of the understanding that the “LF” is a pretty rare scoot. Only produced in 1990 and has a few subtle changes/upgrades from a standard scoot. However, I am unable to find any info online about them. Does anyone know anything about them, or even own one?
. Really daft question, does the “XL” refer to the frame size or does it mean something else?
Thanks,
Stew

Never had one but I do know of a few differences from normal models.
Starting off with the XL, not sure what it means but it designates the facelifted and improved 2nd series PK onwards.
The FL, as far as I'm aware, is pretty much the same as the HP models meaning it has a large finned barrel, cylinderhead and cooling cowl with studs running through the length of the barrel and head as opposed to the small fin versions where the studs were bolted at the base to the cases with separate fixing for the head. Difference being the FL barrel was cast iron whereas the HP was alloy/ nicasil. HP came in 3 and 4 speed versions, not sure on the FL.
These are in a higher state of tune than the normal 50's copying the porting lay-out of the SS50 and 50 Sprinter. The crankshaft has longer duration also and there will be longer primary gearing.
Can't help you further than that really but I'm sure someone else may have further info.

Welcome along Stew. Although not many made it does not have rarity value like some other smallframe Vespas, however it is a good scoot to base any upgrade on. Does it have the single Teleflex gear change? (have a look at gear selecter on underside of engine, if one cable then Teleflex).
Post a piccy of the scoot if you have one.
