I've just bought a pk to take part in a charity nifty fifty endurance race with some friends have done this event already, one team used a vega and the others have a pk both geared 50's The class i'm entering is the same 50cc geared machine ..Now I've just purchased a polini 50cc cylinder kit as it has higher compression and 5 ports but standard bore of course, it will be ported and matched i want to give it more inlet but im struggling on how much to take of the crank web for it to still be use able but create more power because the 50 cranks are pretty restricted .....any idea's? I've managed to obtain different primaries from a very early 50n and use a 19/19 carb if i can get one cheap enough (or donated if possible) and thinking of a standard banana ss type pipe or a ets style pipe and a quality clutch setup... It all depends on budget of course as im trying to spend as little as possible .. any advice and help towards parts ect would be appreciated ...as mentioned it is a charity event and is advertised for march 2019..

Hi Juan Once ive stripped the engine ill be able to compare it to another v50 crank, wondered how much would be safe to remove from the inlet for it to run with the standard sized bore ?

I should have a HP crank somewhere so could take a pic if needed supposing I can find it in the shed.

is it a 2 hole or 3 hole casing? Might have a 19 or 20mm manifold for 2 hole, and wont need de-rusting unfortunately I don't think I have anything else 50 related.

Scooter collected, Now how would i know if its restricted ? its from portugal so wandered whether it would be, i think it could be the single cable type of gear change? any problems with these? It has the choke lever up by the front brake, Ive not seen this before its got the big horrible plastic headset.. ill be investigating more over the next few days but any info on please..

The rotary pad has a groove machined into them so you can't lengthen the inlet, at least not without filling it in or going reed. I had a search for a pic of one and came across one in Jimmys V90 build if you want to have a look at that. Teleflex cable works alright and it should have the XL2 clutch cover and multi spring clutch in it.
Also if a HP or FL it should have a big fin barrel with studs running through it, forward facing plug and a big cooling cowl. Not sure if all the later types ran that type of arrangement.

Oh right ok .... i did see a big finned barrel on ebast ally 3 port, Wondered what the would the benefit be ...cooling i suppose ... I pressure washed it earlier and yes it does have the single cable gear change and normal pk flywheel. Polini cylinder kit arrived today....wow how small!!! transfers to be fettled slighty .... i'm hoping to have the engine out tomorrow night ready for the strip down... Exhaust has had it so soosh (on here) is sourcing a sito standard type pipe ( there very strict on noise levels)..... We need a pk kick start if any body has one very cheap or donate please..

Make sure it needs one first, some late models were electric start only IIRC.

It has a kick start already Juan but its a bit loose and buggered!! Top end removed DR75 well used and buggered too, 19/19 carb has 2 of its 4 tangs broken and has been sleeved onto i think is a 16/16 manifold.. i think we will try whatever carb comes available.. From what i can see with the crank inlet timing its way bigger than the 50 crank i have to compare it with, The Polini kit i fettled and opened the transfers, exhaust i think ill leave as we are after torque more than revs plus we want it last... Ill try and get soosh to get some pictures up as im pretty damn useless with anything with a keyboard! Oh and after removing the fuel tank i found a right mess of a mouse nest with 2 decomposed rodents .....yuk! Engine out hopefully over the weekend ..

Thanks triffid..... Its a 3 stud manifold i need please... Stripped the engine earlier......jeeeeeessssussss the amount of baked on oil and grime it would not move...ive been soaking it with brake cleaned to break it down, it has the xl2 type clutch system with mechanical type ( expensive to buy) clutch cover and thrust bearing...bonus but then again its not going to be pushing big hp like me old Falc !!! The crank has as mentioned a much bigger inlet area on the web cut out than the other 50 crank, the primary drive cog has 14 teeth so will be exchanged for the 18/67 drive.... Both seals i removed and had gone so hard they snapped and cracked like bits of plastic!! Ill be marking up he case transfers in the week and hacking/i mean dremeling them to match the cylinder.. The kick start is actually ok so i dont need one now as it just needed tightening right up.. So in all a very productive afternoon... Good night.....

Evening. The main engine case has now been reassembled, unfortunately i had to use the 14 tooth drive as the 15 wouldn't fit! i think with the gearbox we're using it should work quite well, The Polini cylinder's bolted on and our new standard after market sito exhaust with steel manifold which has been donated by Jerry and the team at READSPEED stourport-on-seven( thanks very much guys) is bolted on to. I'm just waiting for a Honda centre plug head to arrive that i'm going to modify to fit the Polini cylinder, anything to get that little bit more ummppphh! We've had a donation offered towards our entrance fee by a very kind member of the forum ...Many thanks. Soosh picked up 2x 2.75 pirelli nobbly tyres from Barney st george and spare 19/19 carb .. I hoping the xl2 clutch plates arrive tomorrow get them soaked and fitted maybe the thing could be fired up this weekend........Steady steady!!
