If your changing the rear hub you might need to change the front as well...not difficult but you need a few parts and there are a few tricks. There's a good sticky somewhere on how to do it

Me, thank you for the advice so that makes life a little easier, I will as soon as I get the 100 engine I can also confirm if it may have the Jap shaft BUT in South African I highly doubt it I think we got 99.99% Italian stuff here very little Douglas and I think no Allstate at all so I am sure this will be an italian 100.
Nickj I was going to just replace the fork with a Primavera fork so the front and back match. will keep the original as a standard 50s fork.
jbcollier I know you have said the head sets are not shaped correctly but is the build quality okay, shape I don't think will be an issue as we have I think never got an SS90 or 50 here in South Africa so to really see the shape difference from photos will I think be a little difficult but I also don't want to be riding the scooter and snapping the bars because of bad quality products
As for the engine I asked a German guy here in SA about the gear box on the 100 if it will be easy to change to the 4 speed primavera he suggested I leave it 3 speed and build a nice Torquey engine round it, or would it be best to gut the casing and basically replace will all Primavera parts I have got a primavera with Damaged case that I can use for the internals.
I do want to build a faster motor for this BUT also don't want to go that excessive that I need to look at Disc breaks etc... I would love to do like a Falc or a M1 but the know how here in South Africa for Vespa Tuning is slim to none. and Besides from what I have read with the M1 you may as well just buy their case as well.and I think I may also have to build the engine around the exhaust because I want to keep the look of the SS with a Banana Pipe so its pointless to build crazy engine but then just throttle it with a pipe. (but engine tuning I will get to that shortly)

If you want to run with the banana pipe then I would say go with a polini kit and 4 speed box. You'll be fine with brakes and simple tweaks on clutch and it'll be plenty of poke for cruising around.
You can run an M1 kit very happily on matched standard cases but you will also need to convert to a vespatronic type system to get the clearance for the flywheel on the barrel, and it really needs the bigger carb and pipe

Incidentally JB, do original headsets have a piaggio mark somewhere or are there other marks that make it clear its not a replica? I have an oldish SS headset that looks originalish but I can't see a piaggio stamp anywhere...

I assume the SIP Road banana would not be a viable option (TOOOO Small) with the M1 even with a bigger carb or could I get away with it. I currently have a DR130 and SIP road banana on a Primavera which is a very nice ride but is there a better banana pipe than the SIP to maybe use on this build to get a sweet traffic light sprinter (sleeper)? PS. Should I keep the engine build questions on this thread or move it to a different new thread.

i found the polini snail a nice pipe with a tweaked dr kit , not the prettiest pipe on the market but most bang for your buck .that was with v90/100 primarys an was a real red light bandit. H

H Hi Henri I have read plenty threads by you and with out a doubt have gained plenty from your different threads but for me the only reason I want the Banana is to make this SS Copy as close to original in look. A mate had the Polini snail and it was a great little pipe he originally put it on a stock PV125 and the change in performance was very decent

You could run a SIP Road Banana. That will give you the right look and silmilar performance boost to the snail... at least their performance is similar on paper.

My 90ss doesn't have any markings on the headset that I have found so far. Same with the shift tube. Later shift tubes have the octagon piaggio logo. I have been thinking of stripping mine down for a thorough cleaning and service and I'll have a closer look then.

I have had a modern recast one on another scoot and the finish on the interior of the casting is quite course and looked like it had been reworked in places, and lots I've evidence of post casting finishing on the outside...

Thank you for the response JB and thank you for the link to that KIT for others...
from what I am gathering is the later SS models came with the recess on the tank for the resin type badges correct. were these stickers put on top of the paint or clear coated over? the tool for the beading one of the guys here have got one will ask him if he can assist me to do that installation
as for which to build I suppose not a huge deal as this is a replica any way

This got me really inspired for my next project I have a primavera from -68 in pretty good condition ready for a blast and re paint job. Thoose 90SS are so nice, think my badge is square at the front. Can I measure the frame to be sure it is a short one? And what measurements is needed to cut the shield?

Leg shield measurements: vespasmallframeforum.proboards.com/thread/12921Remember that this is with the edge already rolled. I went digging but couldn't find the frame measurements of the early and late frames. It's in past messages somewhere!

To me its a no brainer - go for the replacement leaggies - will save so much time faffing around trying to cut shape and fettle the leggies and floor to suit when you can get the whole thing as a weld on part.
