Going good, any decent strobe will do, just make sure the ht clip goes on the right way around, they usually have an arrow marked for direction. Plenty of good advice on here on how to find tdc and set timing. You can do it by distance with dial gauge or degrees with timing disc. Good luck.

Cheers Davet, I framed myself and successfully found TDC and 16° before over the weekend. I finally got my head round it by watching the SIP video on YouTube and did exactly as the German chap did. I bought a Draper strobe and a 12v battery which arrived today so I'll try strobing it tomorrow.
New rear hub arrived today too so an MOT might be on the horizon soon.

Just set the timing. Managed to get a steady idle by screwing in the idle screw and richening the mixture a touch.
Result!

Sorted out the front end today. Had already removed the axle but today I fashioned a tool to remove the retaining ring and small bearing. I bought a 100mm metal bar off eBay, 40mm wide and 3mm thick. Had to file it down to get it just the right size - it took me an hour and a half to file it down cos I only had this crap narrow file! Got there in the end though and got the old bearing out and new one in. Reinstalled the axle, bearing and seal and put the front hub on. Spins better than it did before so was definitely worth doing. Next job is to put the engine back in, wire up a cut out wire from the CDI to the junction box, reconnect the cables, then when my new rims and tyres come, sort them and I'm done.

I even spotted it the other day at the back of the shed. I thought to myself "I should put that somewhere more prominent otherwise I might forget to put it on. I'll do it in a minute".

Been there done that, you can just about get the plastic cowling back on if you jack the whole bike up in the air and remove the bottom bolt that holds the shock so that the engine drops as low as it can,I had another jack under the engine so that I could lower the engine down slowly , Also remove the spark plug this gives you that little bit of extra clearance to slide the cowling on .

My favourite part on this thread is the 2 line introduction on page 1 Here we are on page 8, scooters eh ;-)

Cheers Kev, I've got a similar system - big plastic box to jack the rear end up, a couple of power tool cases stacked to support the engine at about the right height.
And yeah that intro has really come back to haunt me eh Shaun?

Here's my 'paddock stand' tzsteve I put the plastic cowl on yesterday and fitted the new rims and tyres so I thought I'd get the scooter out of the shed for the first time since January. All that really needs doing now is to fit the cables. A few pics: I think it looks loads better with the badges and trim on, and the new rims and tyres look really nice. The engine starts and runs too now its back in the frame which is a relief. Just have a couple of questions: I added a green wire from the CDI to the junction box (to connect to a green wire that runs on from there) and the cut out works with the ignition key perfecty. However, the lights aren't working now. Before the rebuild they were the only thing that did work! Any tips on what to check? I've replaced the stator but everything else on the electrics side is untouched. Also, I've fitted a new speedo cable and it works fine with the speedo sticking out the top of the headset but as soon as I put the speedo in its proper place it doesn't work. Could it be too long? Is it easy to trim? Thanks guys.

re the speedo. i would try refitting at the bottom end of the cable it could just be that it`s not all the way in. if you have the right cable it should work, triming them should not be needed. could the speedo inner be broken?

Don't think its broken as its only just been fitted, but will check. I wondered if it being too long was causing too tight a curve when everything is where its meant to be at top and bottom end so it was snagging on the outer maybe? Now the rest is done I can fiddle with it a bit more anyway and see if I can get it to work.

That could be it Tzsteve, don't think I did - was too pleased with myself for getting the outer fitted at the first attempt.
Cheers Dave & Clueless, I'll try not to keep you waiting too long haha.
