Are the dates and locations out for this year? Didn't realise there was a Scottish event last year so would really like to get down if there is again this year.

Didn't realise there was a Scottish event last year so would really like to get down if there is again this year. East fortune scooter racing was in both 2014 and 2015, both times on the same end of may bank holiday weekend (Same as Kelso National rally)... Its a very fast flowing circuit, the organisers made the scooter racers very welcome.. This meeting is in conjunction with modern day race motorcycles(fireblades, R1`s) rather than the classic motorcycle race meetings that the scooters usualy share with.. Good track for spectating at, but very basic facilities.. Its a few miles away from Dunbar.. Last year I left the Kelso scooter rally early on the sunday morning to go up and spectate at East Fortune.. It was well worth the 100 miles it added to my journey home.. Dates will be confirmed fully in a few weeks after the BSSO vote on it at the AGM..

What do you think of the new proddy classes Col?

Thanks Col, I have put it in my diary and I am definately intending on going down and will have space for 2 or 3 others depending if the missus wants to go or not. So if you are between Aberdeen and Edinburgh you are welcome to join me. Is there camping there Col? If so I will be taking a 6 man tent with 2 "bedrooms" and a "living area" between the 2 and again you are welcome to join me if you want to keep costs down. You will need to take your own bedding, I will take a camping stove for cooking.

What do you think of the new proddy classes Col? Anyway of bringing in new riders to the BSSO has got to be a good thing, absolute fair play to the sponsors for offering discounted prices on parts and stuff, and for good promoting of it all.... If it brings even half a grid of new riders to the meetings that will be superb.... But to be honest I just cant see it, and I don't get it either....... These new production classes have clear rules and regs of whats permitted engine wise, far more specific than the current Groups 4 and 6 at the minute... If you already own the parts required/allowed to compete in the new production class then its a cheapish way into racing, but if you don't then its all to buy (stating the obvious).... My point is whats wrong with "Street Class"... If your seriously thinking of having a bash at racing, you`ve without doubt already got a tuned/modified scooter.. Street class WILL ACCOMADATE THIS SCOOTER pretty much whatever it is.... New production class rules means you've got to build a scoot to conform to the regs, Street Class is pretty much anything you've already got goes.... As ive already said if there`s alot of production class entrants then yes close-ish racing, but then the guys that have spent years and years making their race scooter very powerfull and fast, will surely see this as a backward step.. the spectator surely will... All riders are out on track in the same race, remember.. Out of interest how many of the tuned smallie owners on this forum already ride on the road a motor of a far higher spec than is allowed in proddy class...?? Either way I will be going along to some of the meetings to cheer on and encourage whomever enters...

I'd imagine that my road motor is quite a bit more pokey than what's allowed in proddy class. That said I'm far too old, fat, and have no-where near the bottle required for the track these days. 20 years ago I might've done but even then the talent would've been a long way short of being competitive.

Very kind offer Glyn, alas this years East Fortune racing is a couple of weeks earlier than the Kelso rally.. so im unlikely to be in the area...... many thanks anyway... Every single race track that the BSSO visits has the offer of overnight camping, its what all the racers do either in vans caravans or tents... so as a spectator its a case of paying for your ticket into the meeting and then just pitch up until you want to go home... To be fair pal East Forune is basic to say the least, I know yourè a long way up in Scotland, but circuits like Croft(Darlington) Mallory (Leicester) and Cadwell (Louth/Lincoln) have far better facilities, and IMO have far better nightime camarderie... On an evening (after the racing) all of the racers to a man, are only to pleased to chat and offer tips help and encouragement to anyone showing an interest or simply spectating.. Most spectators and racers like Cadwell Park meetings best, me included... If only we could persuade the crazy euro lot on smallies to come to the UK and compete it would be superb...

Couldn't agree more mate, I entered on a Street class Gilera Runner for the full 2011 season, im as quick as the next rider on the road around the twisty bits, but on the track I was getting lapped for fun by the quick lads... Like I said aiming things at a cheap entry level is OK if you`ve got the bits already.. But soooo many bikes are already way beyond a Malossi 136 with a Norrie pipe, not that im knocking that set up, but its not a good spectacle on a long race track IMO..... Hope im wrong...

I applaud any incentives for people to get involved at a cheapish level but as you say the performance level is not that high and unless there are at least half a dozen folk in the classs at a meet then you are going to be trailing round at the back. As I'm forever the cynic I can't help thinking that this class has been thought up to improve VE sales in this area, and althoough Mr Kerr is a legend and a stalwart in supporting scooter racing I can't help but think that there is more than a little self interest here too. Still looking to go down to East Fortune though as I can make it down on the Saturday morning if needs be and not miss anything. I have a portaloo too for the tent so can be totally self sufficient . We need to attract more racing to Scotlandbut unless it is well attended than it wont happen. I have been to Croft from up here but it is a bugger of a journey and means taking Friday off work. You fancy coming down Juan?

Still going down to East Fortune on evening of 13th or early morning on 14th (looking more likely) and will have a spare seat in the car and space in the tent if anyone wants a lift down from Ellon southwards. Returning after last race on the Sunday.
